One reason for blowouts that everyone seems to forget is unlike the regular season the losing team will keep fighting. It's all or nothing, so they are trying to score which leads to more turnovers in the passing game and a lot of short fields for the team with the lead. In the regular season a coach may get conservative if he's down a lot but this time of year you try everything you got trying to get back in the game...that leads to games just completely getting away from you sometimes.

Maybe we should eliminate the playoffs because we all know even next week with many #1s facing #1s there will be blowouts.

 

Since everyone gets soooooo upset about those, let's end the season after 10 games (everyone after all is crying for a shorter season). Just use polls or computer rankings to give #1 in each class the title, thus avoiding blowouts that seem to have everyone so butt hurt.

 

Maybe crown an AP, Max Preps, Cal Preps and BGP Champ in each Class! Just like college football used to be. Then let a few schools that are serious about football play thanksgiving weekend bowl games.

I hear college coaches talking about they get better when they make a bowl game and get the extra practices. So i dont see how kids getting to play extra games and practices could be a bad thing. People want football to get better in Ky, but they dont want the kids to play. Just practice extra in June

Any team can beat any team on any given day. There were 4 teams last night who won but lost to that same opponent in regular season.

With that being said, I do believe the system is broken and needs to be fixed. I like taking the top 3 with the #1 seeds getting a bye. I think that gives everyone something to work toward. Having 4 teams from each district in playoffs is too much. You had teams going to playoffs and didn’t win a single regular season game. You had teams in other districts that maybe had a 4-6 or even a 5-5 season and didn’t get in.

They need to reclassify the schools and each district should have the same number of schools in that district instead of this district having 6 schools and that district has 4 schools.

Geography stops that from happening. There are some areas where there are 5 or even 6 similar sized schools together then it's many miles to the next closest district. Can't have one team driving 100's of miles every Friday for district road games when the others only have to do it once every other year.

I want everyone to pause for a second, look at every LOSING team last night in these "blowouts". Every single one of those teams has a great story about a season of hard work and success achieved. Yet they were blown out last night. Is that an indictment of the football playoffs? Is there a problem here? Surely we are not going to knock this list of teams because they lost tonight. I would argue almost every one of these games were anticipated and desired matchups by the fans, players and coaches of the losing teams.

 

By the way, by my count, 12 of these "blowout" losers last night were the #1 seed from their district.

 

Using "blowouts" as a reason to change the playoffs are a joke!! And it is an old, worn out joke IMO. Don't the teams involved in these scores from last night prove that point?!?

If the goal is to build excitement and participation in Kentucky high school football, the more teams in the playoffs, the better. The casual fan will just have to deal with the blowouts.

You may be onto something CoachB. Let's expand on that. We will just give the titles to those top programs and then have a playoff for everyone else. Oops ... there will still be blowouts in that format also.

5 classes, or 4 or 3 or 2 or 1 will not eliminate blow outs, neither will 2 teams from each district nor 1 team. It is what it is , people keep beating a dead horse. Someone say it!!! Belfry , 4 time state champ got blown out, they should not been in the playoffs. LOL yeah I know that is a stupid thought.

Exactly! To often Adults get in the way of kids enjoying their season. Most kids have 4 years to play high school athletics. Let the kids enjoy them.
