Cov Cath better do whatever they need to do in order to keep Coach decision and hid staff.

Central Hardin needs to keep Coach Tim Mattingly. He has taken the program to a level it has never seen. There defense is so much better since he arrived. They may not ever win a 6A State Championship but he has guided them to the only undefeated regular season and 4 district titles in a row. They have won one region title and will compete Friday night for the second one. The kids really believe in him and buy in to what he's doing and it shows on the field and off the field. I hope the school and community will give him the support he deserves. Thank you Tim Mattingly.

Some of these programs act like they're Tennessee or Michigan and can hire/fire coaches like a big time program. But Head Coaches in HS football are a special breed. Hang on to the ones who are dedicated.

 

As do a lot of fans. They want HS coaches fired and sometimes wonder if they realize these people have families. Some may be average coaches but great teachers. And there’s this: How many of those who clamor for coaches to be fired would be fired at their own jobs if everyone was watching?!!

In the 2019 offseason, what programs are fortunate with outstanding coaches they need to hold on to?

Brandon Smith - South Warren. Has a very good group of coaches helping him as well.

 

Chris Wolfe - Male High School

 

Mark Brown - E'town

 

Josh Jaggers - Larue County

 

I can't really say how they are supported in each case. But all these are doing an outstanding job.

Mike Fox - Oldham County seems to have turned that school around.

 

Mark Peach - Anderson County - has made Anderson a force to be reckoned with again.

Johny Poynter - Bath County - from out of obscurity to a solid respectable winning program under Johny

Ray Graham - Harrison County - immediate turnaround.

Dale Estes - Campbellsville - has made them steady.

Todd Adler - Logan County - I think he is getting a lot of support.

Jeff Griffiths - Warren East has made them better pretty quick.

Brad Hood - Allen County - dedicated and his teams are always well prepared.

Mark Dixon - Hazard - good group of assistants as well. They are always in the discussion in their class.

Johny Hines - Pulaski County - much respect.

Jerry Lucas - Collins - top notch coach/person.

Newport needs to keep Wynn. Took a struggling squad to 6-5 in his first season. He’s young and has a lot of kids at the school interested and excited. Hopefully they can keep him for the long haul.

Williamsburg needs to hold on to Herron but good sources have told me his days are numbered as he's looking to hang up coaching.

I've long thought that if I were in athletic administration and had a football opening he'd be one of my first calls. I've very much admired the job he has done at Williamsburg.

Franklin-Simpson

 

Coach Doug Preston came to FS in 2012 after the Wildcats went to the State Finals in 2011. The talent/experience cupboard was bare. After an initial 3-8 season FS has a record of 47-15. Four of five district championships, Regional RU, and a State Finals appearance.

 

Add two State Championships, 26 wins and 4 losses to those listed above. Coach P is a keeper and the community knows it.

Clay Clevenger at Danville. What he has done since he's been the Head Coach there is remarkable. His staff works extremely hard and does a great job with the kids.

Amazing to me Jeff Barth is not on this list and being mentioned. He just took WV to it's first state semi final an has only one year with a losing record.

Randy Borchers at Cooper. He has been at Cooper since they began 10 years ago. He has led them to a State Championship game. Another state semi finals, two regional championships, another regional runner up where they were a 2 point conversion away on the last play of the game from winning. He typically is able to get the most out of his teams.

Different perspective:

 

What schools have a really good coach and the school/community needs to provide more support.... funding, facilities, staffing, etc. ?? What schools out there, if we are honest, the wheels come off if the head coach walks out the door and they better work to keep him?

 

I am biased, but when a program struggles, everyone looks at the head coach when more than likely it is other issues or simply a lack of talented players.

 

And, to be clear, Mercer County Schools & our community supports our program and I am excited to be here. I hope they keep me! I didn't want anyone to read anything thing into this. Lol.
