IS UK football really better?

Featured Replies

We're headed in the right direction. Dissapointed about Saturday, but it's not the first and certainly won't be the last. I think things are looking much better, and I agree we need a couple of good corners in the worst way.

UK has improved this season, but imo not even close to enough to compete in the SEC. UK's defense is terrible along with the line play. We HAVE to be able to run the football before anything else can open up and go on a consistent basis and we have to stop people on defense intead of the "matador" defense that we are playing (step aside and wave at em' as they run by).I will always be a fan of UK football but this same ol' story of "it is building" gets way too old year in and year out. I would love to see them in a bowl game but I have expressed my opinions on 6 win season bowl team. I think that it is crazy to have .500 team in a Bowl. There are far too many bowls but that is all about the $$$$ and nothing else.

If it is bad football (and some of it is), don't tune to the game.

I don't, you have to admit that some of these bowl games / teams are terrible.

I think Ky is definetely getting better, but still a year or two away. Coach Brooks is doing a good job at a tuff place to get top recruits to come to! Were getting there, i just hope that preduent patience will prevail.

The talent has improved. Yes we are young but I don't see the community support out there for Coach Brooks. I am not bashing Brooks. 75% of the fans I talk to still have not bought into Coach Brooks. Honestly I don't see that changing, even if we had won Saturday.

I wouldn't be surprised to see UK finish 5-7 this season. I hope not, but their defense just isn't getting it done.

That strong UK fan base cant sell out Commonwealth this year so I would rely on that statement. If UK goes to a bowl it must win 7 and I dont see that happening this year.

Come on. Selling 70,000 tickets to Commonwealth to watch Central Michigan is one thing, selling 40,000 tickets in Shreveport to watch them play Texas Tech in the Independence Bowl, not a problem. Trust me, the national media knows that UK travels about as well as anyone, it would be appealing.

If UK wins 6 they bowl -- feel free to "remind me" of this thread if I'm wrong. :D

Sadly enough, they couldn't sell 70,000 to watch UK vs. South Carolina.

I agree that they will travel very well to any bowl. If they beat Vandy... they go if not then it will be pretty darn tough. I'm calling bowling this year.

I agree that people haven't bought into Brooks or Archer for that matter hence the poor attendance. It's not like people wouldn't love to be there but I know plenty of people that are fed up so they didn't renew season tickets. I personally didn't renew mine. I've been too one game and watch them all on T.V. I cheer for the kids, LOVE the program but felt like that was the only way with the many others that took a stand to say enough is enough. Prices go up, product is the same.

I do like the young guys they brought in this year and they have weapons on offense, it's just a matter of figuring out how to use them. That has gotten a little better.

5-7 was my prediction before the season started and I hope that I am wrong. We have beaten CMU and that was one the I thought was a loss so 6 is not out of reach I guess but I will stick with 5 wins. I just think that if a team can't consistently run the football, "O" line can't block and you can't even begin to play defense you are not going to win.

Ky is much better this year; no question. And if we get 6 wins we WILL get a bowl bid; I will bet Jim Schue's toupee on it. The whole state will travel to that game. Well, the cat fans will that is. Florida is going to be 2 or 3 now and we hung with them in the swamp for a half. We certainly have come a long way from last season.

:walk: you have to take baby steps...so yea i have to say they are way better then the previous year.

Jeff Fisher for Da Head Coach at Kentucky!!!

IMO, UK is a better team. Are they a 'good' team, no, not at this point. But I still think they go to a bowl game this year. Which, no matter which way you look at it, is better than anything they have done in recent years. So yes, I say they are better than they have been in previous years. Like another poster said, it's all about baby steps, you have to start somewhere. And coming off probation, this is as good as it gets. Look at how probation has hit national powers such as Miami and Penn State, UK was never in their class. It takes time people!
