I'm trying to recall a passage from The Sermon on the Mount, by Emmet Fox. Something along the lines of, "Holding onto anger (resentment) is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die."

I try to clean my slate by the end of the day. I'm rarely entirely successful, but holding onto a grudge is a luxury I can't afford. Oftentimes, disengaging from a person, place or thing, speeds that process along.

Disengaging is more along the lines of what I do. I don’t continually dwell on things; I just cut that person out of my life and move on.

A friend? I’ll get over it pretty quick.

It depends on the person, and it depends on the circumstances.

I tend to treat people in kind. Depends on what they do. If you feel I've been "wrong" to you, it's likely you need to search yourself. Lately, it seems many think they can act the fool with no consequences. That doesn't work with me.

30 seconds tops. 99% of things that happen in life aren't worth getting upset over, losing sleep over, or especially losing friends over.

My wife on the other hand....:lol2:

In my 20’s forever, in my 30’s a little while.

If it's directed at me, I can move past it fairly quickly. If someone does something hurtful to my wife or children, they are pretty much dead to me.

There is a guy in Nashville I should have punched in the face 14 years ago, I'm still not past that.

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

On subject...just heard " holding a grudge is a stone in your heart ! "

Ah someone else has been watching The Good Doctor I see. I thought that was a pretty good quote as well.

To answer the question though, I think it would depend on the situation and people involved but I've always gotten over things quickly so far. If it's a friend and a forgivable offense for which they apologize then I feel if I'm holding a grudge then I'm now the one in the wrong. They apologized and I should be man enough to accept it and move on. I could imagine scenarios where an apology isn't enough, but fortunately for me nothing like that has ever happened.

How long? I don't know yet.

It Depends!

I havent talked to 3 people for over 10 years due to a series of things they did, (who we went to school together and were pretty close back then when everything happened.) I guess thats a grudge.
