Gordon Hayward (Broken Ankle)

Featured Replies

In the first Quarter of the first game of the season Boston Forward Gordon Hayward went down with just under 7 minutes left in the period with what is now being reported to be a broken ankle.

Tough break, no pun intended, for both he and the Celtics.

One of the worst I've ever seen. If he didn't have a sock on I'm sure we'd see some exposed bone. Ankle was at a 90* angle. Just horrible. This will be a tough injury to come back from. I'm sure he's out the rest of this year.

Awful and was glad to see both teams praying for him. I have respect for that.

Up there with Shawn Livingston and the kid from Louisville as one of the worst basketball injuries I have seen.

Glad he got that fat contract before this happened. There went their season.

Also, why don’t basketball players wear high tops like they use to? Seem like most are wearing low and mids

Because they're lighter and can achieve more support by simply taping their ankles if they need ankle support. The amount of ankle support provided by high top shoes was greatly exaggerated.

Let’s hopw he can recover like Paul George has. That was brutal to see. Can’t imagine training all offseason for a championship run and it’s all over after 6 minutes.

I've actually been told that there is some research out there that said the high tops actually caused worse injuries.

High tops do give great lateral support and traction. What they don't do is stop motion of the foot and ankle inside the shoe...specifically the lateral roll that causes most ankle injuries. Those rigid, lace-up style braces do help prevent that sort of injury.

That looks like it might hurt! :isurrender:

I was old school and thought you had to have high tops to play. My last few years playing I wore low cut shoes. If you are going to sprain your ankle it doesn't matter what shoe you have on. The low cut shoes are much lighter and if professionals are wearing then more than likely they are just as safe as high or even better.

I've heard it may not only be season ending but career ending. Let's hope Hayward can make a full recovery and eventually play again. But honestly I wonder what his mental side would be?
