What is everyone's opinion on this matter? A live stream can be as easy as a video recorder and good internet. Even apps like facebook live offer quality streaming. See IMG academy FB page. I personally would love to see every game live streamed.

KHSAA prohibits live streams of any athletic event. Such as periscope, Facebook live, etc. But I’m not sure if there is a difference between live stream and an actual professional broadcast.

I am against it because:

1. Broadcasting video cost a lot

2. Attendance at KHSAA events is already falling

3. Radio Broadcasting if done well is very effective

Absolutely schools should be producing their own live streams.

What a great way to give technology and broadcasting students real experience.

Additionally, schools could use the broadcasts to promote every positive about their school. In short, after your initial investment this is free advertising for your school.

I am sure it will be like most things, the smart schools and the private schools will do it first and most of the public schools will resist, whine, and cry...

Not for football, but I was able to start broadcasting games for St. Henry basketball. It was audio only, but kids who couldn't make games were thankful that they could listen. Besides getting the equipment, you could stream for free. It also has the potential for advertisements.

Another great thing that could come from it is that kids who want a career in either sports journalism or commentating can get a HUGE start in their career. Starting early helps them get better, which in the long run means better commentators on ESPN!

This would be one situation where the better your product gets, the smaller your gate will likely get as well. Yes, you will still have the parents and the die-hards that will still be there. But, your on-the-fence type may very well decide that it's not worth battling the weather, etc. and just sit at home and watch it.

For the most part I disagree.

Opens the doors for ads, promotions to get people to the game; there are many options to providing both without losing at the gate.

Worrying about the gate sales to me seems small picture. If the KHSAA allows it, then absolutely the schools that can do it, should. As some have mentioned if you can produce a quality product then you can charge a yearly fee, or even a game by game fee. Proper marketing could provide money from potential sponsors. Lastly the marketing of the school could be included especially if the students produce the product. IMO Seems to me like a big win for the schools if they are able to do it.

ABSOLUTELY!!! This isn't even the future,.. it is the present!

Utilize other kids at the school in a fashion where they can learn something and accomplish something. High School sports isn't all about making money and selling tickets, it is about growing and learning. Give students the opportunity to learn about broadcasting and computers. This is an excellent opportunity to for more kids to be part of the program.

BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE

The best student broadcasting clip EVER,.. its painful:

1. Today's technology makes it much cheaper than even just a few years ago. Broadcast live on YouTube or Facebook is pretty easy and little equipment is needed. Even streaming on the school website if fairly cheap.

2. Sell local ads, you could easily offset the revenue from 100-200 tickets. Plus the broadcast quality will never be good enough that real fans would rather watch at home instead of live. But there are several out of town fans and older fans that just can't get to the games.

3. It's crazy how many schools don't have radio broadcast...go to NKY and see how many of them are on the radio for example.

Lastly, if done correctly...streaming the games, game broadcast production and selling ads for the broadcast can be a great extension of the school curriculum. Giving students hands on experience in something like this would be great.

There has to be a difference (which is really just semantics) because there are several professional broadcasts of high school football games each year.

Once you have the Internet Connection and the Equipment a school can broadcast video for nearly nothing.

There is more to educating children than attendance.

And on your number three:

I know several have argued against it because it makes it easier for upcoming opponents to scout their teams. When you trade a film, you have control over what films get traded and what gets edited out; not so if you are live streaming every game. Another angle to look at.
