Hey guys some information on this thread is not 100% accurate so I wanted to weigh in on it. I hope you don't mind.

 

The KHSAA only prohibits live video streaming of the state championship tournaments only. You can still broadcast in video the regular season, the district tournament, and the regional tournaments. The district and region do have a rights fees. The regular season does not.

 

About the crowd - If you hear that live video streaming reduces the crowd whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about. We have exclusive contracts with LCA and Lexington Catholic and neither school is down on attendance. We also had a case study done several years ago at Woodford County and again it showed no loss in crowd. We have found that our online LIVE audience consists of grandparents, alumni, and folks who could not make the game anyway. Then our on-demand audience are all those folks who went to the game and wanted to see it again online.

 

Education on quality of the broadcast - PrepSpin streams our games in 1080P HD at 6mbps. The KHSAA TV Network that we produce games for on behalf of the KHSAA streams games at 720P HD at 4mbps. We use YouTube and KHSAA TV uses the NFHS Network. ESPN streams games at 720P, CBS Sports Network streams games at 1080P HD, and so on as a comparison. There is also some secret sauce in the algorithms that many won't understand. We won't go there but we have failed our way to the perfect sauce for the current technology available.

 

Is PrepSpin a KHSAA partner? YES - Since 2013 and we produced the states first 720P HD broadcast and the states first 1080i and 1080P HD broadcast in high school sports. I should mention out of respect that 1st String Media runs the cameras at KHSAA State Events. We drop all the wires to them and use our equipment to produce the games. PrepSpin does all this on our own for everything else that is on our own network.

 

Who did KHSAA State Events before PrepSpin started producing in 2013? IHigh did that in low quality.

 

What is the difference between PrepSpin, KHSAA TV, and NFHS Network? PrepSpin professionally produces our own content for our own network. KHSAA TV contracts PrepSpin and 1st String Media (camera workers) for all state tournaments. NFHS Network offers schools the platform to stream their games and events behind a PPV wall that generates revenue for the school. The schools has to produce their own content. Often this is done by students.

 

PrepSpin has helped a countless number of student athletes get into college thru our coverage. We provide in game highlights and turn over lots of game film to college coaches seeking it. We are not a recruiting service but rather a community based service that highlights schools, coaches, student athletes, and programs.

Having grown up on Pond Creek, graduating from Belfry and not missing a game home OR away for years to watch both good and bad teams I consider streaming a PLUS! Never knew how much I would miss leaning against those fences until I got transferred seven years ago to, of all places Tennessee! You think the West Virginia/Kentucky or Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky games are heated you haven't seen anything like a Tennessee/Kentucky game! I don't know whether it started with basketball or football at the college level or not, believe me, Tennessee hates to lose a game of checkers to ANY Kentucky team! Boy do they know how to brag if they win and how to make excuses if they lose! A good example is when Clemson managed to defeat Bama on the last play of last year's Championship football game. I can't think of ONE person down here that was pulling for a Southeastern Team team over an ACC Team! As far as I am concerned, just because Tennessee couldn't win shouldn't affect you rooting for another SEC team to win it all. Down here it is Tennessee or nobody! Give me a break! How narrow- minded can you be? Bringing it back down to the high school level I cherish every game a Kentucky team beats a Vol team. If you look up the term Vol you will find another name, a noun I think, that refers to a Vol-Weasel as a field mouse! If I insulted any Tennessee fans I KIND of apologize, but your childish behavior over a bunch of 15-18 year old kids makes me want to lean even harder on that fence and NOT apologize over people who act like they are five or six! I just want to see a clean, well-played, well-officiated game with no injuries and hopefully a great game! I REALLY miss seeing those games in person, BUT, I appreciate more than mere words can say the opportunities streaming has given me the past seven years and when I retire I will be leaning on that fence again! Streaming gives you the best of BOTH WORLDS! I will forever be thankful for the opportunity I have been given and I don't think at present streaming has hurt the ticket sales at the gate on any given program anywhere! Parents and gate leaners attend ALL of the games of their teams as not many bad teams get streamed on Friday night game of the week OR the games broadcast from Hazard on WMYT TV on LiveStream2 no matter who plays! If Belfry can't win go Corbin! What is so terrible about that?! Walk a mile in my shoes and then tell me how much of a true fan you are and how much you would appreciate seeing YOUR team either way! I AM NOT leaving out the radio guys either! Your voices give me a longing for home also!
