Just got finished reading it...it is a good article.

I have had the chance to take a tour of the new gym courtesy of Mr. Phil Rison. I have also attended numerous 10th Region Tournament games. There is no comparison between the two gyms. Montgomery's new gym has Mason's beat in every aspect with the exception of capacity. But when you factor in the fact that the people sitting in the top 15 rows at Mason Co. can't see the game because of the sweat in their eyes, it equals out.

 

Montgomery is capable of hosting the best 10th Region Tournament ever - and will in the near future.

I know this is a hot topic so I will do my best go descibe the situation.

 

Why not have a rotating regional tournament between Mason, Clark, and maybe NKU (when they get the new Arena Built) for the regional?

 

The North schools could host one year, the Middle (Mason), and the south (Clark) to make everything equal?

I don't know why I'm even jumping into this debate, because I'm from the 14th region (and I've already been told in an earlier post by a 10th region fan that there's no comparsion between the 10th and the 14th in these kind of discussions), and we've been rotatng for a long time now, and I think we have it right. Every region in the state has four districts, and our region has all districts represented as a regional tournament host once during a four year rotation.

When it is each districts turn to host in the 10th, they get to vote on the tournament site, and they always choose the Fieldhouse. Next year its the 40th district turn, so it will probably move to Montgomery then.

This is not about travel time, it shouldn't be too much about gym size, and along with a lot of other things in life it shouldn't be about money. Montgomery Co. has built a facility that is not equal by any means but comparable at least to the Fieldhouse in Maysville. No one is saying that Montgomery should host the region every year or even every other year. A rotation of some kind has to be established in the Tenth Region. Some years money will be down due to attendance capacities but that is the price you have to pay. This is about fairness to all the teams and districts involved.

10th Region Tournament time comes around, the best teams on the given 3 nights played in the tournament advances and moves on. Bottom line!

Anyone who says that it does not make a difference whether you are at home or on the road is badly mistaken. This also applies to traveling 30 min. as apposed to 1 hr. and 30 min. It really makes me laugh when someone says that it is ok for a competing school to host a Regional Tournament each and every year. There are other facilities in the state that are as nice as the Fieldhouse believe it or not. These facilities don't host their regions every year so why should the 10th be any different. I do not want this to sound like I am anti Mason Co. because I am not. Even as a player I was also a fan of their 2003 and 2004 teams, no one could touch them. I just believe that it is time for a change.

I agree with most of this. Except it isn't going to be on a 3 arena rotation. If MC gets it then it will be Montgomery then Mason over and over again. I'm not for giving another team an advantage unless it's a team I have ties to. If they rotated from CCHS, Montgomery, and Mason then I'd be all for it. Maybe CCHS should have considered that when putting in the bleachers at the middle school and lowering the capacity. None of the NoKy schools have the facilities.

I have been attending the 10th Region Tournament since about 1968, and the

Fieldhouse just gives the tournament a little extra something in March. But

when the 40Th District gets to vote again I'm sure Montgomery will get a shot

to host it. But, if attendance is down and therefore the main factor "MONEY"

goes down significantly, then i am guessing Montgomery will have a hard time

persuading schools to vote for them a second time, reguardless of the issue of fairness of Mason hosting every year. Also, if someone from the Northern KY area could answer if and when the new NKU arena is finished, if they will

deduct rent from the total money pot, if the tourny gets played once on a trial basis there? Also, how will schools feel about splitting that money with

NKU? And does the 16th Region give MSU a cut and WKU gets a cut of the 4th? This hasn't been mentioned and I was just wondering how this works?

Let someone else hold it one year and everyone will see when the attendance is horrible then everyone will see it makes no sense to move the tourney.

Maybe Campbell County should build them an 8 million dollar gym?

Montgomery should have a chance to host the tourney. From what i hear from our administration is that playing at the Fieldhouse brings in big bucks for the athletic program. Nice gym or not, it Montgomery can't make the teams as much money as Mason, it will move back to Maysville. You wait and see!!

No they can drive just like the good folks in Northern Kentucky. Wanting it in Montgomery County is selfish for two teams. Scott doesn't want it at Scott. Campbell County doesn't want it at CC. Only Montgomery County wants it and instead of a contender gym they built a pretender gym. I am a CC/PC guy. I don't want it held in Northern KY (even though I live in Erlanger) so how is wanting a Central/big/GREAT location selfish?
