It does not look like it is any bigger than Bracken or Fleming. It probably will be big enough to hold the region because all of the basketball die-hards who make the Regional tournament an event every year won't travel to Mt. Sterling for the tournament. Mason also draws alot of people from Ohio. A lot of steps to get to the gym, could be hard on older people and handicapped. Looks like a good place for the girls regional.

There are more seats in the end zone than all of Bracken Co and at least three fourths of Fleming.

Some of you people from Mason Co. absolutely kill me. It could be Rupp Arena located in Mt. Sterling and you would still complain. As far as the elderly and handicapped are concerned it has to be equipped for the handicapped so they won't have to worry about all the steps.

Congratulations to Montgomery Co. on a beautiful new facility. I'll have to come to the Clark Co. game if I can get Goldie to spring for a popcorn and drink. :D

Would love for you to attend the game with us....you must sit on GRC side....:D You won't be disappointed in this game...big rivals, always intense. As for the popcorn, Montgomery Co has some of the best. I will bring the ALE-8..:D

Put on your calendar now Jan 19th. We used to call the old gym " The Barn" guess we will have to come up with a new name.

4200 in official seating capacity probably adds up to much less than 4000 people actually having seats... is this enough for the most popular regional tournament in the state?

Also, I don't think "standing room" should factor into the equation.

As for the facility, it is very nice. It also reminds me very much of Scott Co.

Are there two levels of seats in both end zones?

I love The Fieldhouse, but why not a change? Just to see how it goes. If it's bad, you can always go back to the Fieldhouse. I think many people would show up just to see the new facility.

I don't think the official seating capacity is really an issue. And the reason is I don't think the crowds from NKY will make the trip to Mt. Sterling as much as they do to Maysville.

I make the yearly 45 minute drive for me to Mason County and take my kids on a school night. I would not make the 90 minute trip to Mt. Sterling on a school night with my kids.

I believe you lose a lot of the crowd, especially on the M-T games. Also, for those students (remember them?? Isn't HS athletics supposed to be about them???) you are adding 45 minutes and over to their drive BACK HOME on a school night.

If my memory serves me right, game times on M-T are 5:00 and 8:00. Two points:

1)Students there to cheer on as well as the athletes are now getting back around midnight instead of 11:00.

2)Crowds from NKY that would get something to after the gym has cleared out and then return for the 8:00 game, will just bail and head on home instead of getting back around 11:30.

I know what you mean......Clark fans ( and yes high school students) do this every year. Ok for us, but not the Northern fans??? Now you may know why I support on moving the tourney. Last year we had the early game...couldn't get buses in from their route in time to take the kids, so GRC chartered 3 Grayhounds. The night we played PC the Grayhound with the ball team broke down. The band kids got off their bus and let the ball team go in to the game. Our band got there after the game started. Also if you have a early game and have to travel that far, then kids, coaches and fans need to get out of school early...been there and done that. As far spread as the 10th region is, there is always going to be hardships for some teams and fans....except Mason Co, if it is kept there. That is why I am all in favor in rotating the tourney, NKU, Mason and Montgomery ....it is time for a change.

I agree that it is farthest for you.

But moving to Mt. Sterling benefits two schools while putting an added hardship on close to the majority of the region. 5 schools in the 37th, one school in the 38th, and 2 schools in the 39th.

Put the new gym in Mt. Olivet or Cynthiana and I think it is a great idea.

I am not opposed to moving the region, but Mt. Sterling or Winchester is not central for the entire region.

And BTW, those fans of the girls basketball teams (including the pep bands and students) do make this drive every single year except when the rotation takes it to Cynthiana or Maysville. It has been the reason why the girls basketball coaching association has asked to change the girls regional alignment from playing EVERY SINGLE GAME ON A SCHOOL NIGHT (including back to back school nights for the semis and finals). That proposal was shot down because it might take something away from the sacred cow of the boys regional tournament.

From the other thread on this subject:

To Maysville from:

Alexandria (Campbell, Brossart)-49 miles

Silver Grove-52 mi.

Covington (Calvary)-60 mi.

Taylor Mill (Scott)- 60 mi.

Brooksville- 20 mi.

Augusta- 22 mi.

Falmouth- 42 mi.

Cynthiana- 47 mi.

Carlisle- 34 mi.

mt. Sterling- 50 mi.

Winchester- 63 mi.

Paris (Paris, Bourbon)- 46 mi.

Avg travel-- 45.7 mi.

To Mt. Sterling from:

Alexandria- 119mi.

Silver Grove- 119 mi.

Covington- 111 mi.

Taylor Mill- 112 mi.

Brooksville- 65 mi.

Augusta- 67 mi.

Falmouth- 59 mi.

Cynthiana- 38 mi.

Carlisle- 24 mi.

Maysville (Mason, St. Pat)- 50 mi.

Winchester- 16 mi.

Paris- 30 mi.

Based upon Mapquest's findings, 7 schools would be OVER the mileage GRC drives to Maysville with 5 of those schools be significantly over, in triple digits. An 8th school would 4 miles UNDER what GRC would drive.

I don't think it is a fair comparison to compare a 63 mile drive with a 110-mile drive.

I am in favor of roatating it in 3 places not just Montgomery Co. When it is at NKU...you enjoy the short ride....when it is at Montgonery Co we here in Clark Co will enjoy it...:D

Presently, there is NO WAY Regents Hall can host the 10th Region tournament. We have HS gyms that are as large. I would not be surprised to find out that Harrison County, Bourbon County and GRC holds as many as Regents Hall.

And personally, I think it would be unfair to Montgomery/GRC and their fans to ask them to drive over 110 miles for the game.

I agree!!!! Maybe Mason County can start practicing and playing in a smaller gym and someone will hold the key to the Fieldhouse until March. Or Montgomery County can build a gym in Maysville that's bigger so they can host the Region!!!!!

Complain to the KHSSA. They are the ones that made your drive longer. When the playoffs in football come around I do not here teams complaining because you have to go on a long trip. Or if you make it to Rupp in basketball its to much of a drive!!!! Come on they deserve a shot at hosting the region.
