If it was a yearly rotation with Montomery they would have had it 15 out of 30 plus montgomery gets home court.

Time for some 10th region history.....

Mason County has been in 16 of the last 26.

 

Since the merger of Mason County and Maysville (1991-92 school year) Mason County has been in the championship game 10 times. In three of those years Mason County went on to play in the championship game of the state tournament. So clearly the best team in the region.

 

There has been at least one other school that has dominated tournament play the same way. Maysville High School was in the region championship 14 of 28 years during one stretch. This was at a time when the region was rotated before the Fieldhouse was built and then after the region has been held at the Fieldhouse.

 

The last year that the tournament was not held at the Fieldhouse, 1969, the host Clark County Cardinals, beat Mason County in the finals. A rematch and same result as the year prior that the tournament was held at Mason County.

Hey man, let me make it easy for you. If you like to visit and go to different areas in the region, you can do so all season long. Check out the khsaa website for schedules of 10th region teams and I am pretty sure you could probably visit each participating school throughout the season. You can go to each school, be happy about it, and come back and give us all a full report.

No offense but there is a BIG difference in the 10th region and the 14th.

Preseason is fine with me as long as the Cards are the #1 when it counts in March.... We will try our best to get over that hump this year.

Agreed. If anyone disagrees, they're wearing blinders.

Does anyone really think that Hazard High School would have close to the 30 regional championships that they've accomplished over the years without the advantage of having host the tournament in most years between the time Memorial opened in 1948 and 1965, when the first other 'big' gym in the region (Breathitt County) opened. And they've hosted it a bunch of times since Breathitt's gym has opened.

Being able to host a regional tourament is a huge advantage, especially in the years when the region has several teams that are fairly equal. To say otherwise is simply ludricious imo.

The local team does not have to travel.

The local team is also playing in familiar surroundings that they practice in everyday.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the local team has a comfort zone that the other region teams do not have.

In addition, the host team's tournament officials have access to the referees and other important folks that the visitors don't have....they bring them their food and drinks and have the emotional situation of just being around them at halftime.

Now some teams are overpowering in some years, like Mason recently, and it wouldn't really matter one way or the other where the tournament is held in those particular years. But not all years are like that. I think that is what the fans from Clark and Montgomery are trying to say.

If the rest of the 10th region schools want to sit back and give the advantage to one school every year simply for the reason that they seat 6500 and are better located, then more power to you.

I would love that but it is true that Mason has held the 10th for a while and it is a time for change. I would not mind going to Montgomery County, or heck Scott High for that matter. If they vote to have it there let them have it.

I know this is a hot topic so I will do my best go descibe the situation.

 

Why not have a rotating regional tournament between Mason, Clark, and maybe NKU (when they get the new Arena Built) for the regional?

 

The North schools could host one year, the Middle (Mason), and the south (Clark) to make everything equal?
