Have you ver been to the 14th region tournament? I have listened to the same talk for years. Even Mark Story eluded to the fact that the 10th region is the best regional tournamnet in the state in Sunday's paper. It is a good tournament and is run by some professional people but is I don't agree it is always the best tournament in the state.

I guess we did find a new home. No one past Paris in the 10th would play us anyway. I especially enjoyed the 2 1/2 bus ride to Mason to the regional tournament on the "nuetral" floor the few times we actually made it.

I thought discussions were intense on the football forum but this is pretty serious!!!!! I am originally from a "lesser" region, I suppose ,(the 12th of old) where gyms are just normal size-- and we had to get there early to get a seat! I think it is pretty narrow- minded to think that a school "deserves" to host it every year. Shouldn't matter where you live in the Region, all the athletes deserve post-season memories in their own gym. In softball this past spring, Montgomery & Clark drove to Campbell Co. (approx. 2 hrs) {in softball, District & Regions ROTATE each year} to play each other for the chance to go to the State tournament- we practically followed each other there! Did we like it much- no- but both teams were glad to be playing for the Regional championship. I am not a Montgomery fan but hats off to them for trying to make things better for their teams- and the other teams/counties that will benefit from it. I went to the Fieldhouse to watch Mason & Clark play for the Reg. Championship- and wasn't as impressed or comfortable as I expected to be- so why not give someone else a chance?:confused:

How many cases of cookie dough would you have to sell to build a 5000 seat arena. That would be a full time job for the AD!!

Who is Montgomery's opening game opponent?

So the 8 million dollar 5000+ capacity is the max? I don't understand why they couldn't have built it to hold another 1000 people. They could have held fundraisers and taken donations to make the gym slightly larger. If they weren't building the gym for the regional tournament then why build it at all?

 

Typically they hold the student body of the school.

I can't wait to see the gym in person. From what I have seen, I think it would be a complete shame if that don't host the 10th at least once!

Hmmm, I thought you would arrive quicker than the 2 1/2 hours by the choo choo train!

My school had an auction a few weeks ago. Over 5000 dollars in 2 1/2 hours. That's in an elementary school. Hopefully a high school basketball team with the tradition that Montgomery has could raise 10 times that. Also I said "donations." Send letters to alumi asking for money. They donate especially when it comes to sports.

 

I do appreciate the cookie dough comment. Real sweet. I was thinking bake sale, car wash, or cake walk. Not silent auction or flat donations. Granted Montgomery doesn't have an NBA superstar to lend a hand, but I'm sure people who used to play there have jobs and some are probably even quite successful.

Many regions have a Rotation. Can't the 10th consider this, if you look to past years, not saying that Mason didn't have the best team each time, but they have won many regional titles in the fieldhouse, i don't believe the homecourt advantage is hurting them any at all. Use the rotation, or try considering more than 2 in the rotation. For the Region to be held at the same place each year is rediculous, a neutral or away cite makes a huge difference, trust me.

There is a reason why your in the 14th, and its a good reason because of location. Never understood the trip your school had to make, therefore realignment was good for you and your area. I really don't think the drive had anything to do with your school or players do the 40th district and the time you spent in the regional tournament, or lack thereof. Best of luck in the 14th!
