Do the people in Montgomery Co. expect to hold the 10th region tournament? Surely, before they built this gym they checked with the powers-that-be to make sure the gym was large enough to host this event... can anyone confirm this?

 

After looking at the pictures I think this debate is a moot point b/c the gym does not appear to be large enough, IMO.

I don't care if Mason's gym seated 15,000, no high school facility should get to host the region every year on their home court.

Now, I realize that some region's host the tournament each year on a college campus, like WKU or Morehead State. But those locations are not the local high school team's gym. Rowan County does not play their home games at Morehead State.

We rotate our 14th region tournament at 6 different sites, although Knott Central has the largest gym at 5,000. The 14th region Policy Board figured out a long time ago that was the best decision for our region. All 4 districts get to host the region at least once in a 6 year period.

It's not always about money. Sometimes it's about fairness to ALL the region's students and fans.

No offense but there is a BIG difference in the 10th region and the 14th.

I don't care what Mason fans say they know that they have a huge advantage by having the region every year on their floor. They really get a advantage when it's their turn to host the district. They don't have to go on the road until they get to state. thers's not one person that can tell me that Mason didn't have a advatage against Clark in the finals playing on their own floor.

Noone is trying to tell you that. The thing is is most of the people who have posted in these threads in support of the Fieldhouse aren't even Mason fans or residents.

I saw this new facility at a football game a few weeks ago, and it is very impressive. I played a lot of games in the Barn, and I think it is great Montgomery got such a nice facility.

What is the difference? The top 6 schools in the 14th have comparable gyms to every school in the 10th except Mason and now Montgmery. Travel time is about the same from one end to the other. Other than the size of the schools what is the difference between the 14th and the 10th? The 9th and the 1st? The 13th and the 2nd?

The semifinals last year at Knott was a packed house...5,000.

14th region fans come out during tournament time the same as folks in the 10th and other regions.

The tenth regional tournament is widely regarded as the best in the state... From personal experience, I would have to agree. Also, it was not uncommon to have 6500+ in the Fieldhouse during the semifinals.

I would have to disagree. I have been to the 10th many times...it is great. I also have been to the 14th, 15th and 16th., some great B-ball. Last year in the 14th when Jackson City was in the finals, was super special. A team that had not been to the finals before. Regional tourney is a very special time...no matter what region you are in....playing in the Sweet 16 is the goal of all schools. Some years you will have teams that are not expected to be in the finals, and teams win that are not expected to. Madison Central of the 11th last year. Watching the TV coverage of the regionals last year showed all the excitement that was taking place across the state. To say that one region is regarded as the best regional tourney in the state...IMO...just is not true. This is coming from a 10th region fan.

I am from NKY and from my experience, (having been to the 9th, 6th, 7th, 4th, 11th and 16th regional tournaments) the atmosphere at the 10th Region in the Fieldhouse is a notch above the rest. I am not trying to be condescending towards other regions but what you guys in the 10th have going is great and I personally hope that they don't mess with it by moving it out of the Fieldhouse.

Guess we will just have to disagree on this one. The 14th is one of my favorites, and yes they rotate sites. Nothing like those mountain schools giving it their all to go to the big dance in Rupp.

I've been to the ninth several times and the tenth several times being a Campbell County grad. The tenth is much better. Maysville booms for a few days and everywhere you go you can feel the excitement. Watching a game at the Fieldhouse is fantastic. Nothing like sitting courtside or behind the coaches when the place is full.

I really can't decide on it. I love the Fieldhouse for the regional tourney, but I keep thinking to myself, "What if they have a gold mine over there in Montgomery County?"

 

I think the basketball will make up for any atmosphere, but that is just me. I'll watch anyone play anywhere.
