With all the other schools that utilized Manual Stadium for so many years it's a shame it wasn't switched to turf 20 years ago!

Bengal is being very liberal in his estimate of a 1,000 fans for some of the teams he mentions. I have attended some of these games, and they are lucky to have 300 fans in total for both schools.

Other than T and X, what program(s) can really fill up a stadium? I don't get down to Louisville much, but in Lexington, once basketball starts, the football stadiums are empty, even in the playoffs!

 

We not talking another Papa Johns stadium here. Id say 7500 at max, if you are going to have multiple games played their you have to be able to handle the crowd for both games at one time.

Yes, but it was previously posted that legacy facilities would remain as practice facilities. Have you considered the title IX concerns over putting football in an elite stadium, and girl's programs on the dirt school stadiums?

 

County wide stadium, play as many sports/band competitions, easter egg hunts you want in it.

I don't think one stadium would be enough. I think a wiser move would be to build two or three across the city an assign certain schools to certain stadiums. There are something like 20 public football playing schools in Jefferson County and in most cases they play against each other, rarely venturing out into the state. You'd be trying to squeeze 8-10 games in per week, which would be near impossible (not to mention soccer/field hockey). Building three stadiums would limit the football games to 2-4 per stadium per week, which could easily use Thursday and/or Saturday if necessary.

An interesting concept, but one that I think faces a lot of challenges.

 

By my count, there are 19 JCPS high schools playing football. As several have mentioned, one stadium would not be enough to accommodate that many teams. Three or four might be, but I am not sure the expense of building three or four new stadiums would make more sense than schools maintaining their own stadiums.

 

I know of no particular school that needs a bigger stadium at this time, although I readily admit that I have not been to football games at a lot of the schools.

 

I think JCPS has many more pressing issues facing it at this time.

Other than STX, Trinity and CAL, no one else in JC has turf. By the time the later playoff games are played the fields in JC are terrible. Just this week the Metro Louisville government proposed building a track & field facility just west of downtown. JC Public Schools should consider joining this venture to build a football/soccer facility at this complex with a turf field.

Manual has the money. Director of Jefferson County Athletics and Activities won't allow it. Same goes for Male. Unfair advantage to those schools according to Mr. Wyman. Fayette County Public School system gave their football stadiums makeovers and all have artificial turf now.

Another issue is that at many schools in JCPS, students go to games to "walk the track and hang out" rather than watch the game and cheer. Some schools have good student sections (Male, Manual, Butler, PRP, Ballard, Eastern) while others just roam around. For many games, the track has to be closed at the end zones in order to keep students from walking around the track to taunt the other team's fans. If central sites were developed for double or triple headers, this could become a problem with so many kids aimlessly walking around just looking to rile up other people.

I think JCPS should have a facility that is larger than the others (room for 15,000) to host bigger events and games. In football, let each school host it's biggest rivalry there. (Male/Manual, Ballard/Eastern, PRP/Butler, etc.) In the playoffs, they could host the anticipated biggest draw of the week there.

 

Many cities have facilities with 8 or more turf fields to host tournaments, youth leagues, etc. In most cases, there is one stadium surrounded by several fields with smaller stands. The facility brings people to the city for tournaments. They become revenue generators for local businesses and produce increased tax revenue. (check out facilities in Gatlinburg, Charlotte, Canton, etc.)

 

Our location (Nashville, St. Louis, Cincy, Indy - all within a reasonable drive) would make this a great location for a facility like this. I would love to see the city join with JCPS to build such a facility here.
