W.Va running back runs for 658 yards in one game.

Your exactly right, Matewan's coach is a loser no matter what his record shows. Tim and Brian both could've thrown for way more yards, but there is a much bigger picture.

I echo the sentiments of Watusi.... his program, his standards, and his actions are a complete and utter scar on the face of high school coaching.

Allowing this kid to run up the score on Burch pales in comparison to the ethical manifestations that Kinder represents. He deserves no place in coaching, especially around minors.

Yogi Kinder is the biggest joke in the Williamson area. Allowing his star back to stay in a game like this and destroy a team like Burch is pathetic. For years, even when I played at Belfry, I wanted Coach Haywood to schedule Matewan because they always ran their mouths about how they would beat us. Looking back and knowing what I know now it would be a disgrace for a man Like Yogi Kinder to even walk on the same field as one of the great coaches, a "true" coach, like Philip Haywood.

I would not want to take anything away from what the boy achieved Friday night but on a classy team like Belfry that star back would be just another face on the sidelines. Matewan High School, the Matewan Tigers football team and the entire town should feel horrible for this beating that they put on a team like Burch. This brings another point about Belfry not playing Matewan. Belfry is a top notch football team and we like to play teams of equal caliber and that is the reason Matewan always has and always will keep their trash on their side of the river. If Yogi wants to show how tough he is then schedule Belfry next year and Coach Haywood and the Pirates will show the Tigers just how it feels to be on the other side of the beating like Burch felt this past weekend.

Yogi Kinder is not concerned with having class, because he has absolutely no concept of what the word means. On the football field and off, he is morally and ethically bankrupt. Running up the score in a football game is a minor thing compared to the depth of Mr. Kinder's other displays of his lack of character.

It is a shame the BOE and Matewan administration has continued to let him be in a position of leadership in their schools and sports programs. I would never let a son of mine play for any team that he is coaching and I wouldn't let a daughter even attend a school he was located in.

That bad, aeh? He muct be to allow his "stud" to stay in the game and run up the score like that. If I were the opposing coach, we would have had more than a few words after the game at midfield. That's just ridiculous and there is no place in HS football for coaches like that. Sometimes I get a little selfish by wishing a certain RB could get more carries.... and then I see this and I'm glad he plays for a HC that has a ton of class. There's no place in football for this type of stuff. What kind of example does this set for the kids who want to grow up and play football. It's truly sad.

Wow unreal how about the o-line getting the job done in that game.

The way I look at is is that the opposing coach needs to teach his kids how to shed blocks and tackle.

Just trying to be sure that I understand your position - are you saying that you have no problem with burying a team that is clearly overmatched and not competitive, in an attempt to artificially inflate the statistics of a player?

Did you read the post by Belfry Boy, that states that Burch has a total of 12 players on their team? If that is true, just how much pride do you get from cheapening the game like this?

This reminds of the coach in the mid to late 1990's who had JR House, the QB who broke many of Couch's national passing records. He had the same modis operandi. He even publicly stated that if he could beat a team 100-0 and help House break the records in doing so, he would do it. He did that all season. However, the good news was that he had around 21 seniors starting on that team and the next few seasons, there were quite a few payback games. At least when Couch was at Leslie County, there were several games where he threw very few, if any passes, in the 2nd half when the Eagles had big leads. At least their coaches understood that it is not just about records, but about showing a little class and sportsmanship and sending that message to their players. This coach obviously doesn't understand what those words mean.

I believe JR House played for Poca High School and they are and have always been a traditional power in WV. I don't recall very many games that they could run the score up playing in the Charleston-Huntington area which has pretty good football teams.

I thought JR played for the Big Reds of Parkersburg

You're both wrong. :p House played for Nitro.

If my team runs up the score-"Sour Grapes"

If your team runs up the score-"no class"

Sometimes you just gotta get your licks in when you can.

You're both wrong. :p House played for Nitro.

Definitely Nitro.

Better mark it down, it may be awhile before I am wrong again. :p:D

Ive heard it a lot in this thread, and although true Burch is very weak this year in Coalfield A, WV, this is still the same guy, Paul McCoy, who ran for 595 against Shelby Valley in the Shorty Jammerson Grid. I know Matewan had to forefeit the win, so I am assuming that this mark had to be forefitted too? None the less, this was one thing that was going to stand out to me this season was McCoys 595 being erased, but now that he went on to post 658, I guess that will no longer be a concern.

Again, yes, Burch is a weak team, but it wasn't like McCoy was just piling up yards due to the competition, the kid can run, and has proved that all season long.
