This will be the third year in a row that these two traditional powers will hook up. Belfry dominated the line of scrimmage in the previous two games, winning by scores of 28-10 in 2015 and 41-8 last year in Newport.

 

The Thoroughbreds will look to shake off the affects of a disappointing 35-7 loss against 6A Campbell County in horrendous weather conditions.

 

Belfry is coming off a 40-19 bounce back win over 6A Bryan Station after losing their season opener to Huntington (WV) the week before.

This will be an interesting challenge for Belfry.

 

Huntington and Bryan Station were rich in athleticism but were also spread teams.

 

NewCath will be the first team that will try to run down hill on the Pirates. I am curious to see how Belfry's D performs when the DE/LB's can actually play up on the line a little more.

I am thinking Belfry by about 3 scores. The offense is rolling, and I may be wrong but I think the defense will fare better against NCC's style of play. Might even see a new wrinkle or two.

 

I'll call it 38-14 Pirates.

Belfry should win big. They'll have no problem running the ball against NCC. 42-7 Pirates.

NCC actually played one of their better halves in the first half against a very talented Belfry team last year. Down 14-0 and driving to possibly cut it to 14-7 late in the half they coughed up the pigskin.

 

Then Belfry returned the second half kickoff untouched for a TD and the floodgates opened.

 

So it might take another good effort to keep it close. I think NCC may use the dual QBs again but maybe not as extensive as it becomes more clear.
