My Brossart-Newport and this game are both played on Friday night this week.

I'd love to see Coach Haywood's Pirates in action. Having met him and having read his book, I've gained a lot of respect for him and his Belfry program.

Last year they had some Man-Beasts. You know it is a problem for the other team when Belfry had kids that looked like the uniforms did not fit and it was not because the kids were fat, they were just ripped. They would run that option and it was pick your poison on who to stop.

Last year's team was unfair.

Are all the kids for NCC healthy? I thought I heard Kelly left the game last week..Hope is is ok because they will need all they have to beat Belfry.

Offensively, Belfry is still going to be very good. The OL has come on pretty strong and exceeded expectations for a completely new unit. They return a lot of firepower in the skill positions, so expect to see something similar.

The area where you will notice a big difference is on the defensive front. Last year's team was just one of those that only comes around once in a long long while. Horton and Bentley anchored an incredibly stout DL. The Pirates are still finding their ground, so to speak, and you will see a much smaller DL. Only one starter on the front 5 returns and he is a sophomore. The two middle linebackers, though, both return from last year and they are very good.

Not much chatter on this game.

Hopefully all the Pirates heading north this afternoon will have a safe trip and return. I enjoyed the trip there last year, and visiting with @mexitucky and @Lawnboy13, but I won't be able to make the trek this time.

This will be two long road trips in cosecutive weeks for Belfry, having played at Bryan Station last friday. Maybe it will help get them ready for a possible regional game in Louisville in November. Thanks KHSAA.

As for the game, even though Belfry is probably a 2-3 score favorite, NCC is certainly capable of a win. NCC's run defense will be the key, as that is where I think Belfry has the biggest advantage.

I'll be following on BGP, so make sure some of you post updates :D
