Bishop Brossart 13 Holmes 0

Featured Replies

Final per the update thread.

Feels like a baseball score.

Nice win Bishop Brossart!

Congratulations to the Mustangs.

Mustangs played "lights out" defense tonight. Pardon the pun!

Brossart led 13-0 at halftime on the merits of a 70 yard pass play from T-MacDonald to Bryce Donnelly and a PAT by Bryan Duffy.

Duffy connected on a pair of field-goals - 30 and 29 yards respectively, all in the first half.

In the second half the Mustangs thwarted a Bulldogs drive on the first series of the second half, as they marched the ball from their own 39 to the Brossart 6. Nate Bezold came up big twice in that first and goal series to prevent the score and preserve the shut-out.

The Mustangs defense has now recorded six consecutive scoreless quarters.

We will be tested next Friday night at Bellevue against the 2-0 Tigers at home.

That Bellevue game will have a fun matchup - Donnelly vs Evers. Two of the fastest kids in the state.

Not a good way for the Dawgs to celebrate their new digs. Feeling bad for the C.O.V. tonight.

Coach Wiggins has done nice job with this team so far early in the season. He's got some runners who can mix up the tempo and he's got some receivers who can catch and run. The penalties have to stop. Too many false start and delays last night hurt a lot of their momentum. The special teams played better than the first game. It was nice to see Duffy get that field goal monster of his back and make a couple. Donnelly looked equally comfortable punting the ball. If they can control the penalties they can really put a lot pressure on the defense. Good luck Mustangs!

I too thought the delays came quick last night - for both sides.

Coach Wiggins is besides himself over the "lack of concentration" penalties.

I'm sure this will AGAIN be a point of emphasis at practice this week.

I hate to see Holmes lose in their opener at the "new" field, but congratulations to a Brossart program that just keeps improving.

Great game by the Mustangs! Gotta feel bad for the Holmes faithful...

BTW, is Tez Calloway playing this year for the Bulldogs? Heard he was injured in a car accident a month or so ago. Incredibly talented kid..just wondering how he's doing.

Holmes's new field has play clocks in each endzone and the referee's control them remotely. There was some grumbling in the crowd about the play clock but it is controlled by the refs on the field. It is however a nice touch. Now if we can just get that shot clock in hoops.

Brossart's passing game was the difference in my opinion.

Plus they bowed their back on the goal line and if Holmes can get a score there, maybe the momentum changes.

Congrats to Brossart.

Holmes just needs to keep working. There were some bright spots but just need to execute better.

If I heard correctly it was an ATV accident, and he is not playing football......hoops may be in question as well.

Hate to hear that...super talented kid that I've been watching - and coaching against - for years. He's got "it"....

Wishing him a quick recovery...
