A Hankerchief - Do You Carry One?

Featured Replies

When I was a kid you always saw men with hankerchiefs. My Dad had a drawer with millions of them. My brother always carried one, and so did I.

I probably began carrying one in the 1st grade until I moved out to my first apartment at 22 where I began doing my own laundry, and I'm guessing that I just figured that I could grab a tissue if necessary, and not bother with them.

I have a couple of boxes of clean and unused hankerchiefs that were given to me as gifts that I've never opened. I figured I'd keep them handy if I needed to wear a suit to a wedding or something, but there they remain... tucked away because I really can no longer justify them as a necessity when there are disposable options, and I don't have to launder them.

So what about you?

Was there a time that you regularly carried them?

Do you still?

How long ago did you ditch carrying one if you quit?

Does anybody really carry them anymore?

Didn't it once seem as though they were a staple for everyone, both men and women?

Probably did as a child, only to go to church.

Not since then.

I never really understood why people carried those? Why wouldn't you just carry some tissues and throw them away as needed. Instead you put that nasty thing back in your pocket.

No.

Never in my life that I can remember.

Only during allergy season and i can count the number of days i do carry one on one hand! :)

Check that...i forgot about funerals and graduations! 5-10 days out of the year.

Always have. Sensitive sinuses and the ability to get a tremendous cold once or twice (or more) a year. And the fibers from tissues always seemed to cause more problems than they helped. Still put a clean hanky in my hip pocket every day.

Used to be everywhere in the world wasn't airconditioned like they are now.

My first several cars didn't have AC, and it seems like I spent a lot more time out in the heat.

Used to carry a hanky or bandana all the timt. More for wiping sweat then blowing my nose.

Only time I use one now is when I'm mowing or something out in the heat. Usually a bandana though.

I've never carried one. My Dad does to this day.

I have been gifted several but never used one for carry. So I have a bunch in my closet that habe never been used.

When I was young , I did at times . Not now. My Dad did everyday that I can remember. When we were out in the field he would blow his nose and sling it with a couple fingers. There was an art to it.

I used to all the time growing up because we lived in an old house near the river and it was always moldy. Still did regularly into my 30s but now really only keep one in the car and at my desk. I will carry one in the hip pocket on bad flare-up days, because my nose is like Chinese water torture those days. Fortunately those are usually isolated around heavy tree pollen or ragweed seasons (and if it's too moldy).

Cat allergies were another reason I had to carry regularly, but I'm good at avoiding places where cats run freely in apartments and houses.

I've never carried one. My Dad does to this day.
My dad did every single day.
