Im not sure, maybe. So if that's the case, how do you regulate what is bought? How do you allow milk, bread and veggies, but somehow keep people from buying cigarettes and candy bars?

 

I believe the card is regulated in some way. I don't think you can buy tobacco or certain types of energy drinks.

I don't disagree. That's not what that assistance is meant for.

At some point, aide to the poor needs to be coupled with job placement. Thats a challenge if there are no jobs.

You are reaching, to say the least... I didn't insinuate anything. I was simply asking questions as to what the comparitive costs would be. I guess it was silly of me to consider cost, even though one of the biggest talking points lately is how much more in debt Obama put us. If I was saying what you keep trying to tell me I'm saying, it would look like "We should just let the fraud go because it would cost too much to clean it up."

That is why I chose them as example of more effectively serving the poor than government. Charity must be accompanied by responsibility and accountability and The Catholic Church excels at both.

It would be all great if people put their money where their mouths are. No one wants their tax dollars to fund social aid, but most people are giving just enough to even keep their churches solvent, and nothing extra. If the Church can't receive Federal aid, there is no chance they can fully fund and administer aid programs that the communities are to rely on in lieu of social aid funded by the government. The Church helps a lot of people who fall through the cracks.
