So, just to clarify the question..... 40 AB's, Bronson throwing his usual arrangement of 80 mph fastballs + his assortment of junk. Could you get at least one solid single? I don't think I would. I might put some wood on a few but I doubt I get a base hit. Some of you guys have probably played a lot more baseball a lot more recently than I have. You can answer for yourselves.

Maybe my old baseball coach will chime in here. If its a fastball down the middle the plate I might get 1 out of 10 in play. Any junk though? 0 chance.

I don't think I would come close to a hit. Would the ball make contact with my bat once or twice? Probably. Would it reach the outfield? I'd say, no. Some others on here may fare better.

If of 10 pitches, Bronson threw an 84 mph fastball on the first pitch under your chin no one would make contact on the remaining nine.

My approach would be to sit on fastballs and either hope I get one early, or get into a favorable count where I'd have a good chance at getting a fastball. If I get a good swing early in the count or if he gets behind me, I might be able to square something up and have a chance. If he got ahead of me though, I'm probably dead in the water. At my current skill level though, and only having maybe 10 at bats against live pitching in the last half dozen years, chances are I'm going down swinging.

The difficulty with BA is he throws strikes most of the time, so getting a favorable count is unlikely. We are talking a very good major league pitcher, past his prime, but still an average pitcher at 40. BGpers ain't touching him. Maybe a weak dribbler or a tip. Soild single not happening.

That's kind of what I've been saying. Even in my prime, baseball playing college days, I don't think my chances would have been good. Right now, it's likely somewhere between slim and none.

I'm pretty certain that I would go .000 in 40 AB's . Surely, there is one BGP'er who could go .025 in 40 AB's. Anyone think you could go 1 for 40 ? What if $10,000 was the reward if you got a hit?

Those counting on his fastball have to take into consideration that his fastball moves 4 inches with index finger pressure. You ain't getting a straight one so sitting dead red is useless. If you can't hit a hanger, you're out of luck in my opinion. But what do I know?

I know some are better than others, if high school is the highest level you played, and you haven't seen a pitch in years, I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people who think they could square up on BP of 84 mph fastballs could put four tokens in the machine, step into a batting cage and not make contact with any of the 12 pitches off a 75 mph machine.

No question I could hit anybody's 83 mph fastball after a couple looks.

 

Not so much on the junk pitches.

At least if I'm looking fastball, if I keep my hands back, I can adjust to a hook. If I'm looking curve, with my diminished bat speed, no way will I be able to catch up with a fastball. Regardless, the only way I even have a chance is if he makes a mistake, whether it's a hanging curve or a fastball that gets too much of the plate.
