I'm going to assume the majority of people here are right handed and haven't faced a pitcher trying to get you out in at least a decade. That 68 mph curve is going to look faster than you think, and good luck staying in the box. There would be strikes that you think are going to hit you.

 

I was an ok high school baseball player on a good team and played competitive summer ball but didn't play in college. A year or two after graduation I played in a scrimmage against my old team and struck out more times in that game than I did my senior year.

 

85 MPH in high school happened a lot less often than you think it did, and good luck timing that without swinging a bat with a barrel in years. Combine that with actually standing in the box against a ball with movement, and at best maybe one or two people on this board could make solid contact if given 10 pitches.

From a pitching machine it is. From a live pitcher, it isn't. I've seen guys throw 80 with little movement that can't get anybody out. Then there are other who's ball moves a lot AND they can hit spots, and can be very hard to hit. I'm guessing Bronson's ball has at least decent movement. And if he's really pitching to you, you're going to have be able to deal with the junk. He's not going to be just chucking up 80mph fastballs down the middle.

 

But yes, i would agree, if he's just throwing 80mph fastballs, there are probably quite a few people that could put a lot of balls in play. But that's not him pitching...that's him throwing BP.

I get it. That really doesn't answer the original question though. If he's just tossing fastballs at you down the middle, putting a few balls in play or even getting a hit or two isn't that big of deal. That's just BP. Although, I'll still say, if you haven't been swinging a bat against live pitching, it's still going to be tougher than most of you think, especially if he is trying to get you out.

Have hit people that are faster so don't see why not, but he has some trick in his delivery, leg kick, and off speed stuff, if it is just fast balls no doubt get a couple

Look. WBP is all about arm slots, change of speed and movement. Even his cheese is crooked. So it's not just 80 you're dealing with. It's getting on your front foot. Struggling to get to the pitch on the edge. All of those things. So simply saying you've hit "faster" ain't enough.

"80 is 80" is simply just not true. Otherwise there'd be a bunch of guys making the jump from high school to the bigs. Bronson is going to change speeds, release points, hit spots, work you inside and out, up and down. You're not going to roll out of bed and just be able to hit him. If he's not good enough to get BGP members out, we wouldn't be watching him pitch every 5th day for the Reds. You might put some balls in play. But if he's really pitching, there ain't many of us who are going to get a real, especially if you put a wood bat in our hands.

And I could hit Chapman also if he only threw 65 and put it right down the middle for me.

There are a lot of variables here:

 

1. Do you get one at bat or 10 straight pitches? Big difference.

2. Do you have to get an actual hit, or just make contact? Again, big difference.

 

If the question is do you think you could make contact if Bronson threw you 7-10 consecutive pitches (similar to a HR derby), then yes, I think I probably could. If the question is do I think I could get a hit against Bronson in a game-type situation, the answer is likely no.

So, just to clarify the question..... 40 AB's, Bronson throwing his usual arrangement of 80 mph fastballs + his assortment of junk. Could you get at least one solid single? I don't think I would. I might put some wood on a few but I doubt I get a base hit. Some of you guys have probably played a lot more baseball a lot more recently than I have. You can answer for yourselves.
