Love when folks cry over the cost of gas, yet pay outrageous amount of money for water out of a bottle when tap is free.

 

Ah, the luxury of tap water that some have. Here at the Compound, Mr. Cat has been trying for years to get water. We thought this year would be the year - the water district and the Campbell Co. Fiscal Court were on board but some of our neighbors still believe falsehoods about costs and voted no when surveyed by the county.

 

Our cistern does the job for us in the meantime; rarely do we have to have water delivered. We do spend $30 a month to have 5 gallon bottles delivered for drinking. Cistern is fine for cooking, laundry, and bathing but I ain't drinking it.

Disappointing that this entire thread has been about how dumb it is to pay for bottled water instead of how great it is Americans are drinking more water than soda.

But it's smarter to pay for Soda that's horrible for you?

If someone had told me when I was a youngster growing up in Booneville in the early 1960s that someday companies would be marketing bottled water and bags of dirt and people would actually buy them I would have laughed and said "no way".

I remember when Coke and Pepsi first started selling 6 pack bottles of water. They would put them out with the 6 packs of carbonated beverages when they were on sale...at the same price. I would always ask them shouldn't water be cheaper?

 

I'd ask one bottle is filled with purified and filtered water, sugar and secret ingredients...while the other is filled with purified and filtered water only, "And they cost the same, why?" They could never look me in the eye and explain why water cost the same as the rest of their products.

If you buy bottle water by the case it is pretty cheap. I buy it because I take it to work with me. When I'm at home I drink tap.

I have a buddy in Florida who owns two gas stations. He told me bottle water is the biggest profit margin product. He gets a case of 40 for $4.98 and sells them individually for $1 a bottle.

Single serve water is a large profit maker for gas stations and convenience type stores, but I doubt there is much profit in it for soft drink companies.

There is no bottled water on the planet that is better than the tap water in Louisville. The main reason I only drink bottled water if I have to. I'll take tap water here 10 times out of 10.

 

Have fun drinking water straight outta the Ohio Freakin' River. You realize what gets dumped into its feeder streams down in the mountains? You realize how many dead bodies make their way in there? Louisville water can't be filtered enough.

 

Many areas have great tap water, many many more do not. Go to central Indiana and try to drink that stuff, I dare you. :lol2:

 

Even ice cold it's hard to drink, unless you are really thirsty.

 

Lots of places have crummy tap water and, at best, need to be filtered a bunch before consumption is advisable. Bardstown tap water is awful. All the good water is being used for whiskey. I've seen bathtubs and sinks in places around the state, especially EKY, that are so rusty you drink the water at your own risk.

 

Best tap water in Ky comes from that big aquifer under Northern Ky, centered around Gallatin, Grant, Owen, Franklin, Carroll, Henry and Trimble counties.
