My vote for worst idea of the day...at least so far.

I'm not sure why everyone is so against the idea. Why is football the only sport where class size is brought up? Do you think kids at a 4A school hit harder than kids at a A school? Depth may be an issue, but so be it. In every other sport, it is not an issue. No one yells out if Trinity and Beechwood meet in the baseball finals, or Paintsville v. PRP in basketball.

I think Trinity would win but they would not be the best team...... not a good idea.... on Nintendo sure... real life... pass.

It wouldn't make any sense to do it. Depth is huge. 5-on-5 in basketball, with all 5 playing offense and defense, is more open to potential level playing ability. See University Heights, et al. It's reasonable a small school could have 5 great athletes. But some schools can have 22 football starters (and really good ones at that) due to depth that would only rarely happen at A or even AA schools.

It's just simple logic. Bowls are fine in college, as it's recruiting-based, and schools are as good as what they can recruit. The way it is is great, although the 6 class system is yet to be tested. Four has worked very well.

Nope.

I always wondered how Trinity teams would have faired against those Mayfield teams that had higher Litkenhous ratings in the 70s.

I would have loved to see it as well, those guys could play with anyone at the time. Durning the hayday those teams played Nashville Brentwood, Lincoln out of East St. Louis (who went on to be the IL class 5A I think it was state champion), Memphis teams. Those Mayfield teams, a Pikeville team when they had that special group and I'm sure a couple of other small teams that had freak teams that were great could have made a game of it with the big boys but it is very rare that any of the small schools field these freak teams and in recent times it has been even more rare. I do think that from time to time the 3A schools (3A in the current 4 class system) field teams that are capable of being the best in the state.

So I also have to say that this is a bad idea and one that it appears could not work today given that there is no time left for this after the title games unless the regular seasons were shortened and all the states basketball coaches were jailed until it was over.

Then someone tell me why so much crying has happened over the division to six classes, everything you say is exactly right about school size now lets take into account Kids in rural county schools. Kids in Rural Schools sometime have to travel 20 or more miles to get to practice, where some City schools kids can walk to practice.

I'm just bringing up points for conversation but to say that all schools across this state are playing on a level field is as far from the truth as one can venture. I've always though the classes should be divided up taking into accout numbers of boys in the school and the area of the schools rural urban area's serviced Kids in Rural Counties shouldn't have to compete with schools in the middle of louisville.

Lets stick all the Lexington Louisville covington city schools in one class and call it 6A then put the larger Rural area schools in a class and call it 5A, and so on.

No System put in place will ever be fair to everyone, that just life. I like the Classes the way they are now I wouldn't have messed with them.

But then what'a I know?

I see why a lot of people are opposed, but honestly I'm not. And I'm a guy whose school hasn't even been in a championship game since '88.

No.

Teams who want to test themselves will schedule higher classed opponents.

I still cannot understand the thinking of 6 classes in our state with the population size and overwhelming number of counties. I still think the driving force behind the idea is that every one has to be a winner/champion. Getting such a game to be approved in today's climate would be impossible.

yes

No everyone knows that the 4A, soon to be 6A champ would win 95% of the time.
