Hurt or Injured???

Featured Replies

How do you go about deciding if a player is hurt or injured? Does it seem that the same people on your team are always "injured'? Coincedence? Lack of mental toughness??

Sadly enough a lot of kids are like that, always injured if it's not one thing it's another.

Injuries are just like touchdowns in football, they are going to happen. Dealing with injuries and being able to adjust due to injuries shows the sign of a good team.

In High School, many kids don't know how to use their bodies, or don't yet feel comfortable in thier bodies. Some kids that are just "hurt" feel injured.

If your hurtin play through it, if your injured sombody will help you.

Injuries mean you can't play, hurt is it's uncomfortable. Their are many that can't tell the difference.

SUCK IT UP!

Sometimes kids who play "hurt" turn out to have severe back/shoulder/knee problems in thier early twenties. Playing "hurt" can impact the rest of your life. There is a very very thin line between hurt and injured.

Played with a guy that came limping off the field during a game. Coach told him to walk it off. He showed up for Saturday practice in a full leg cast.

I think as a coach you have two things working for you. First, you have to trust your trainer to let you know when a kid is really hurt. Second, I think you probably know your kids well enough to know who the malingerers are and which kids play through the minor aches and pains.

As a coach you have to develope a trust relationship with your players and must learn their personalities as each is different. You have to approach each injury as if it is legit and treat it as such until proper medical personal (trainer, team Dr,etc) diagnose the problem. It is a coaches job to get the help needed, not to treat or diagnose an injury unless it is believed to be life threatening. Some kids are more injury prone than others and some can take pain while others have a low tolerance. It is a tough decision for a coach especially with the way some people are looking for a quick $dollar.

I agree. You KNOW when something is wrong, and you know if your just trying to get out a drill. There's a big difference.

Football is a painfull game, full of 'hurt'. It takes a special person to play this game. If it was easy and pain free everybody would play it. Injuries are a part of life, we don't like it to be but it is. A REAL player will suck it up and play through the pain and hurt, others will lie down and want the attention. When you see a kid get his clock cleaned and he gets up not really knowing where he is at but keeps on going, then my friend you have found yourself a football player.

very true, many people don't believe in injurys(other than torn ligaments and bones), but if one is injured you're hurting the team and your body. Making the recover time longer.:bunny: :bunny: :bunny:
