What Makes Rockastle such a great team this season?

Well I would definantly not say they are great by any means. They lost to a very average Lincoln county team and haven't played great. What makes them good is the ability to use there big guys up front and get a push then run right behind them. They are also a very good defense.

Their ability to adjust, like they did @ the half with Harrison County.

Rockcastle has been a very good team, year in and year out, for a number of years. I'm not sure about great. They always seem to have a very nice O-line, as was mentioned before.

Rockcastle has a very good program. They have gone deep in the playoffs for the past 10 years or so. They may not have the most talent, but with good coaching and hard work they seem to be a very good team year in and year out.

The Rock is 3-1 and lost to a really good Lincoln County team by 3 points. Lincoln County is not very average as previousley stated. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the 1st quarter and ended up with less than 30 yards of total offense for the remainder of the game. If people say, "well they still lost regardless of the score," then you cannot use the same argument when it is mentioned that the Rock has beaten their opponents, regardless whether or not the score was 2-0 and even though Corbins record doesn't indicate that they are any good, they are a pretty good team. Rock scored 47 points on Harrsion County and averages a little more than 400 yards of offense each game with 270 of that in rushing. They have one of the leading rushers in the state in Dusty Miller with 570 rushing yards thus far. The team is adjusting to a new quarterback, tailback, fullback and center. They have tons of potential and if previous seasons are indicators whether or not this team will come around then I'd say they are in pretty good shape, since they have appeared in the last 5 of the last 7 regional championship games and missed the other 2 years by a combined 8 points including 2 OT's. Basically the Rock has been hyped up a lot this season because their whole line returned except 1, that one kid went on to play college ball and they have a D-1 player this year. It is still extremely early in the season and fans expect a lot so there are always speculation as to why Rock doesn't just beat everyone by 50+ points every week. Not too mention they will finally get their linebacker/tight end back after a close call with a rare disease.

The Rock program took off when Larky took control, but having kids with a ton of heart helps.

I dont know if I would say Rock is a great team but a very good one. They are a very good team because of a great Coaching. They have a very nice back in Miller and a big strong line for him to run behind. They play hard with a lot of heart and never quit. The Rock program is solid.

Not a "Great Team" by any means. They have to have one of the worst kicking games in the state. They are upper middle at best, but far from "Great".

How does this team compare to past Rockcastle teams.

Lincoln is probably an average 4A team.

From year to year, Rockcastle has one of the best "run stopping defenses" in the state. They motivate their defensive line to cut, crawl, bight, scratch, do anything to get the offensive line going backwards. They also jump around in some weird defensive looks to cause teams problems. If I would say over the years Rock's defensive weakness would be against the pass because of their unique style. Lexington Catholic has had success on them a few times in the past but those Catholic teams were pretty good too. Rock takes a lot of pride when teams come to Mt. Vernon and play them there. Not too many teams have come to Rockcastle and had their way with them. I remember Highlands beat up on the Rock their a while back but Rockcastle returned the favor a couple of years later with Marty Reagon and Aaron Anderikan's team.

 

Lets be honest, in Mt. Vernon you can go to Renfro Valley, go to the Bingo Hall on the hill, or watch Rockcastle play football. Football is a big deal there and it always will be for the players and the community.
