With postseason basketball in full swing in the state of Kentucky, emotions are in full swing. From players, to fans it simply just means more to everyone this time of year.

 

For me the 2010 Clark County vs Mason County at the legendary Fieldhouse is the best atmosphere I have ever witnessed at a high school basketball game; between the student sections, Clark County sitting on the traditional "Mason County bench", Darius Miller and DeMarcus Cousins were in the house, and the fact both teams not only had a shot to win region but also the state title that year this was one for the record books!

 

So, you have heard my best moment, whats yours?

The overly loud announcing at the BB&T Arena at NKU for the 9th Region Tourney, and the constant loud advertising at every opportunity that gives the ears no breaks whatsoever, or any chance to have casual basketball talk with whoever you're attending games with is a complete turn off, and is increasingly spoiling the experience of what could so easily be a fantastic atmosphere for the tournament.

 

No doubt the arena is a great place for the tourney, and the seats are comfortable, and you don't have to wait in line for eternity, and there's no chance of a sell out, and I do understand that sponsors need to be recognized, but Holy God why must the PA be so blaringly loud and in your face with announcements relentlessly being made ad nauseam to the point of it being downright painful?

 

I'm totally fine with loud bands and cheering that come with high school basketball and would find it dull without it, but constantly being told what insurance I should have for example is beyond ridiculous and distracts from just simply enjoying the games and having fun conversation with family and friends.

 

If this was occasional that would be fine and understandable, but the loudness continues for the entirety of the event with zero breathing room making me long for the days when the tourney was being held at places like Holmes minus all the advertising.

 

Sure, it's outgrown Holmes and needs to be at the Arena but Holy Crap I just wish they didn't have to spoil the experience, and could just dial it down a little for crying out loud. :eek: :eek: :eek:

Boyle County's Rebel Arena will be as rowdy as anywhere tonite with an all Boyle/Lincoln Final for both boys and girls.

2001 10th Region Semifinals double header. Had to have been one of the largest crowds there from what I remember. Campbell Co. vs Montgomery Co. Mason Co. vs Brossart.

 

2007 Final between Mason Co. and Clark Co. was a great atmosphere as well. Miller vs Knowles round 2. (Met in 2006 final).

 

2011 9th Region Final: Dixie Heights vs Newport Central Catholic. What a game!

Probably not in the ballpark in terms of size, but the Demon Dome was rocking last night. I expect much of the same tomorrow night.

Honestly any district final could be listed here.

 

I am against the ones that want to do away with District tournaments. The excitement in these gyms are awesome.

Any key district or region tournament game in Eastern Kentucky (excluding any game at the Expo Center, ever).

 

For me, there is nothing that compares to a big time game at places like Perry Central, Knott Central, Johnson Central, Shelby Valley, the old Breathitt County gym, etc. etc.

Always a great atmosphere at Lincoln County too, As we'll see next week

1992 Region at Fieldhouse, Brian Kiser and Estill Co vs. Daniel Brown and Nicholas Co. probably the best crowd I`ve seen both teams were very hungry, it was a sea of blue.

Any Adair County vs Taylor County game from 2007-2009, all the games were within 10 points, and most of the time they had to shut the gym because it was too full, people would line up 2 hours before the game to get in.

Mason/Augusta - 2014 at Bracken County

Mason/Augusta - 2016 at Bracken County

 

Mason/Clark - 2010 Regional Championship at Mason County's home gym,

Being older than dirt, I've seen some great games and the atmosphere was superb. One that stands out in my mind. Pendleton County vs Clark County at PHS back in the early 70's. Standing room only for a regular season game.

 

Campbell County vs Brossart games rarely disappoint.

A little biased but of the gyms I've been too, when the fieldhouse is packed it's just got a different feeling about it than anywhere else I've been
