Anyone planning on attending a "watch party" or maybe traveling to an area that will be in the band of totality? This will be a pretty special eclipse. We don't get this good of a look at a total eclipse that often. I'm thinking about either Hopkinsville or possibly the western part of Tennessee I will probably go a couple of days ahead of the eclipse and make it a final little vacation before school starts backs. I'm really looking forward to this rare chance of seeing a total eclipse in our general vicinity?

I have had reservations for a cabin a Kentucky Dam village for that day for over a year now. Several of my astronomy friends and I will be converging there to watch the eclipse...or to plan to drive from there if it is cloudy.

 

People don't realize how huge this will be. Don't miss it!

We're retired, so Papaw says every day feels like vacation. Hope I might be able, post back surgery, to take a short trip to western Kentucky. Just looking forward to traveling more this year. We both enjoy science and history.

Heard that a lot of the hotel rooms in the band are sold out and campgrounds, cabins etc are hard to get into also.

What is the best way to view it? Someone told me an old Welders shield or glasses are good enough, but I have no idea...and haven't really researched it.
