Not enough time in the night for me to list those that use one and/or both on the regular.

Derek Smith may have been the best TE, NKY has ever seen. They were rolling that season though so anything they did worked.

I'd say across the state the teams that use a TE are probably still at 70-80% if not more.

How many high school teams throw to a TE? Not that many IMO.

 

I can see a run happy team like Dixie Heights benefiting from incorporating a TE...but with the proliferation of the spread it isn't necessary!

I have no idea why Highlands does, or does not, use a TE... I can tell you that TEs who are good blockers, good receivers, and good athletes ARE increasingly rare. A lot of those guys are focusing on basketball, now, maybe???

I am going to chime in on the use of the TE at championship levels since that is where Highlands wants to go back to. Every school who won a state championship this year uses a TE out in the field. I won't even cheat and say inside the 20 or at the goal line.

I would love to hear from people who know Highlands football (not just people trying to stir the pot) why they don't use a TE. The easy answer is "they don't have the personnel", but kids know they don't use one, so the "bigger" guys don't prepare themselves as they come up in the feeder system. Any insight? Is it truly personnel or a lack of belief in the need for one from the coaches?

Blake Newman was also used as a TE also. This was Dales last year of really using a TE as a offensive threat.

Guidugil was a good one and play in the pros a couple years.

Highlands has used a TE rarely over the years. Even when Derrick Smith was there he might start out at TE but more times than not he would split out wide. I have watched Highlands TE's run free over the middle of the field and rarely be thrown the ball. Maybe this is the year that changes!

Nobody listed as a TE on this years roster. They barely have any size on the Oline this year also.

Their Hudl 2017 roster only 3 kids listed over 230 pounds and I think nobody over 6'3.
