Highlands lack of using a TE

Featured Replies

Their Hudl 2017 roster only 3 kids listed over 230 pounds and I think nobody over 6'3.

Still a lot of eating and lifting going on before the season starts. I'm sure those numbers will change.

Your really into Highlands football aren't you? :lol2:

This has taken the usual turn. I started this thread hoping to learn from people who know the system, the rational behind not valuing a TE within the system (feeder,Frosh,JV,and Varsity) and it has turned into the predictable banter. So much for just trying to learn something on here.

Agree with you 100%. Highlands did utilize a TE early in the CovCath game last year in an attempt to control the ball, but had to abandon that when the score got out of hand.

Dale abandoned his use of a TE in order to add an extra receiver or 2 with the intention of wearing down the opposition. He also had QB's that were either very adept at running the ball or very adept at throwing it. BW in his first year at the helm benefitted greatly from having a QB that could do both very well. Will they go back to using a TE this year? Guess the question will be what type of offense they are going to try and run.

I think a kid that should consider TE is current Soph Austin King. He is getting bigger and has excellent hands. He isn't your prototypical TE as far as size probably 6'1 185 lbs and growing but he is the perfect possession receiver. His nickname should be "Sticks". Coach the kid up on how to block at TE and he is your perfect weapon IMO. Doesn't have burner speed so when split out he is great for possession catches. Sticky hands that could be best utilized at TE IMO.

I agree, AK and/or Ben Sisson. He's a big boy now too. Can he catch though I wonder?

The better question might be, is this thread a precursor to informing us that Highlands WILL be using a TE next year? If not, then this entire discussion topic is way off base.

Possibly...hopefully...They probably won't be able to figure that out until they figure out who will be at the helm playing QB and what offense they need to put around him to help him succeed IMO.

Sission was the guy I've been thinking about this whole time... Seems to have soft hands in hoops and looks to like contact on the hardwood and the field.

Thus the reason he plays defensive tackle correct? I would think he is needed more at that position than lining up at tight end where he "might" catch a half dozen balls.

Nate Roberts was used as the TE versus CovCath last year. Would there be a problem with him?

Nate is pretty tall and a good athlete as well. I go to back to the point that if they don't go both ways this year the Birds will struggle. They'll need numerous boys going both ways and not just 1 or 2 IMO.

I think Nate can be used as a mismatch at wide reciever due to his size and speed.

Sisson is a great pass rusher, I would keep him as an outside down lineman.

Austin King is listed 6'1 165 as a WR and Nate Roberts 6'2 180 as a WR.
