I just don't subscribe to the idea of instantly letting someone off the hook who has for months PURPOSELY acted the way you have. I wouldn't expect that from someone towards me if I acted

the same way.

You are not getting this. I dont care what you think. I think you PURPOSELY do the same thing. You just think you are right and and I am wrong. I think you are wrong on alot of the things you say, and right on some. I did not like you all making fun of anyone on the right during the election( thats why I post the 538 thread to show you all how wrong you were and I understand thats hard to take, but all those posts were there and the taunts, the jokes etc, but thats was ok then for you all as long as things were looking good for you guys, but when it was shown your predictions were so so wrong its been hard for some to take. Other wise next time be careful how hard you dish it out, you might have to take it harder) and it was just not you all were making fun of. It was anyone who was right leaning. Anyone it never mattered. You are a sore loser. If you guys had not gloated like that and took shots at all us on the right, I would never have said much at all. Thats the truth whether you chose to believe it or not.

Otherwise dont dish it out if you cant take it.

Jesse,

I'll join you in trying to lessen the divide here on BGP. You've vowed to be better, I'm acknowledging that and agree to do the same. I'll apologize for anything I've said over the past two months that may have offended you and understand that while it will take some time, we can AT LEAST understand each other's views on these different issues.

He has the chance to prove it now. That doesn't mean we ignore the past two months.

We don't have to ignore it, but we also don't have to throw it back in his face, do we?

Edit: :thumb: per your last post.

For the record,

1) I want peace,

2) I appreciate that you want to do better,

3) President Trump is my president.

Thats great. But lets not miss the bigger picture here. I have come forward to say I will try to do better. But lets be real clear here, this is not dependent on me only. If there is not blame taken by others then this will go south quick. To think this is all my fault or the posters here who are like minded like I am will be met with worse now after I have said what I did. In no matter am I saying I am conceding what I believe in thats right for our country. As you can see, some here have no conscience that anyone other than us right leaning posters have done anything wrong. That elitist attitude will get us father down the road that divides us even more. So do not mistake my trying to do better for weakness or conceding what I think is right or wrong. I just made the first step. We will see who makes the next one.

Thats great Duece. We dont have to agree on everything. Heck I agree with you alot of times I dont tell you. I am not your enemy. I would rather call you friend.

I've never viewed you as an "enemy." At the end of the day we are all on the same team. And you're right, we don't have to agree on everything. One thing I always try to do is understand why someone thinks the way they do whether I agree with it or not. Sometimes I'm successful and sometimes I'm not.

I understand. Prior to this week, I hadn't posted in this forum for 5-6 months, but I promise to do better, too. I, too, won't concede my principal beliefs in doing what is right for others. I do ask that if someone feels that I am being divisive, that they ask me about it, as it was likely not my intention.

Here is where the real test of strength of character comes. Things are going to be said that make people on both sides want to snap back. That is when it is time to pause and think about the better way to respond. As I said earlier, seek to understand. Instead of making a statement and drawing a line or attacking, ask a question. Why does that person say that or believe that? Ask them to give details and back it up with reasons. That will further the discussion and lessen the divide. As we have already seen in some posts on here, the divide on some big issues like abortion and gun control is not as wide as it is made out to be. If we seek to understand, we can have some great discussions.

You are 100% correct.

But there's the rub isn't it? The extreme on my side wants it outlawed and the extreme on your side wants unlimited, unrestricted and free access. Any talk of compromise from either side is met with resistance. Both sides need to learn how to give.

Agreed.

But have we seen ANY of that over the course of the past several years from our elected leaders?

Okay, now since we've gotten the train out of the gravel and back on the tracks, I want to say thanks to Jesse James, TheDeuce, True blue (and gold) and, of course, Voice of Reason for this (somewhat) BGP summit. Good to see you guys working it out. Nice work VOR and TB&G. FWIW, I'm not making light of it, I'm serious.

Now for the making light of it part, because I can't not post a meme now. The temptation is too great.

That is a big part of the problem. Partisanship over statesmanship is the current standard in DC. Until people start making it an issue in elections, it is going to be next to impossible to get them out of that rut.

To me personally the divide has come down to two main things, but there are others. When I was told I couldn't say Merry Christmas because I might offend someone and when they said a grown man could go in the same bathroom with my 12 year old daughter, that's when I decided I could care less what she left had to say.

Those are valid points that I agree with. We have lost all semblance of morality.
