January 27, 20179 yr Mr. Trump seems to really be smitten with the idea of torturing our adversaries. "They are chopping off heads" and Mr Trump seems to think that we should "fight fire with fire." He really seems to get off on the idea of waterboarding, or worse. He says he thinks it's an effective measure of enhance interrogation. The Generals think differently. His own Defense Secretary says no way. Barry McCaffrey thinks Trump is off his rocker and is doing harm to the country by talking this way. Anybody BGP enhanced interrogation scholars on here think Mr Trump is not off base on this one. Our enemies are, in fact, committing some horrible atrocities on other humans. Saddam did, Assad and Putin do it, Kim Jung Fruitloop does it . Hell, Hitler did it. Why not Trump and America? Isn't it time we got tougher on these people who want to do us in? Is there value in waterboarding and torture or isn't this just the path that ISIS wants us to go down? Does an America that tortures people make the Islamic State's sales pitch to potential jihadists even easier?
January 27, 20179 yr I lean towards not being in favor of it, but in all honesty, I don't really have an opinion on it one way or the other.
January 27, 20179 yr Listening to the ABC interview the other night, I got the impression that Trump was going to listen to his generals on this and take their recommendations on what works. He said he would be OK with NOT doing this if it didn't work.
January 27, 20179 yr I am against it for the most part, but I think there would be times I could see it would be useful. But, i am also in favor of torturing child molesters, serial killers, etc.
January 27, 20179 yr I don't necessarily care if we do that, but if we do, we can no longer complain about what other countries do.
January 27, 20179 yr The line between enhanced interrogation and torture is pretty thin. I am in favor of using whatever means necessary, short of physical torture, to save American lives. I'm ok with the psychological aspect of it. Breaking them down mentally is the ultimate goal. I think I would support the use of truth serums also.
January 27, 20179 yr I have mixed feelings, but I feel like if I absolutely had to choose a side, I'm more on the side of torturing our adversaries than not. Not all torture, but I think I'm okay with interrogating potential terrorists by using torture tactics. Lots of gray. Glad I don't have to make that decision and I don't really want Trump making it either. I'd side with whatever our Generals believe works best.

IMO, this is what Trump's position and it has been during his campaign.
January 27, 20179 yr If waterboarding can save 1 life is it justified? Yes, if that can be proved. In general, I am in favor.

He said he would be OK with NOT doing this if it didn't work. I believe he said today that he thinks it works, and he disagrees with General Mattis on it, but that General Mattis gets to make the call.
January 27, 20179 yr Playing nice and humane has got us what exactly? To be the finest country in the history of the world. Not bad.
January 27, 20179 yr I agree that Trump should be open to not following through on a campaign statement and listen to more knowledgeable advisors.
January 27, 20179 yr To be the finest country in the history of the world. Not bad. Real? We continue to kill each other every day over random and silliness. How fine are we really?
