Waterboarding is not torture and it matter that stateless terrorists are not protected under the Geneva Conventions. I agree with Trump's position on water boarding but oppose torture as a policy.

Here's the difference I see:

 

When other countries have captured people and have done it, it's usually been doing it to journalists or people with no knowledge of our affairs, which even the common soldier most likely wouldn't have knowledge of our plans or anything that would be of much use to the enemy, meaning that they are doing it just to do it and to cause pain.

 

If we're doing it, it would be to get information that would save lives.

 

Doesn't matter why they/we are doing it. That's you trying to justify us being as savage as them. If we use torture tactics, regardless of the reason, we can no longer talk about how other countries treat people.

I am okay with water boarding as well, but torture is torture. Trying to lessen that is simply trying to make yourself feel better. Which is my point, we can't complain about what other countries do when we are torturing people ourselves.

I disagree. Whether or not water boarding constitutes torture is a matter of opinion, but even if one accepts that water boarding is torture, that does not mean we forfeit our right and obligation to criticize harsher forms of interrogation.

 

If Trump decides to allow law enforcement agencies to employ water boarding of terror suspects, then he should not criticize other countries for using waterboarding. Regardless of his decision, our government should not stop criticizing other countries for amputating body parts or throwing family members off of roofs to coerce prisoners to provide incriminating information.

I don't care what the offical policy is for apperances. I just don't want any tool taken from those who protect our saftey behind closed doors.

I totally agree with this. Waterboarding became a trumped up rallying cry of the left IMO years ago. WAY more was made of it than should be. I think the US has actually waterboarded less than 5 bad guys ever...someone correct me if I am wrong on that. However the left and media made it sound like we have waterboarded hundreds if not thousands of bad guys. Waterboarding is uncomfortable and scares the heck out of you. However, there are no permanent effects like real torture cause. We have even waterboarded our own servicemen in their training. If they can endure waterboarding in training, I have NO PROBEM seeing a terrorist that we need information from NOW being waterboarded.
