January 22, 20179 yr Hopefully we can discuss this on a high level and not get this thread closed. Two tough topics in one thread cause me to put this one in controversial issues. Which political party is more religious - Democrats or Republicans? I am asking about their political positions and their core beliefs. I purposely did not say Christian, although feel free to discuss this from the Christian point of view. There are many issues we can use to debate this. There are the obvious abortion, death penalty, gambling, drinking, LGBT, marriage/divorce, religious freedom of choice, "family values", et. al. I am sure there are more that aren't listed here. Let's talk.
January 22, 20179 yr The major problem to answer this question, Republicans wear their religion on their sleeve and the Democrats have a political person and a private religious person. As stated by Joe Biden. Sorry, don't know how to post a link, need a 911 to grandchildren.

January 22, 20179 yr Of the 2 most “religious” people that I know…. genuine spiritual, genuine loving, genuine passion for living the gospel of Christ, one is democratic and one is republican. One is a parent, one is a priest. I can only hope to ever become half as “religious” as either.
January 22, 20179 yr Author I see Republicans as dogmatic and Democrats as tolerant. Which quality is more religious? Is it so subjective that we can't label the religious with either?
January 22, 20179 yr I say , speaking in generalities, Republicans are more into religion. Spirituality... now that's another story. That's harder to poll. I am very anti-religious but very spiritual.
January 22, 20179 yr I think it depends some on how we define religious. The Pharisees were religious but rejected Jesus. I think forcing your religious believes on a person is not how to get them to come around to your way of worship.

January 23, 20179 yr Orginized religion can take on the mob mentality and be quite judgemental and gossipy. I go to church when I need to be around others. Mostly I find that I think about GOD and JESUS withought the support of being in the box 24/7. I think republicans are more religous as a whole. There is a non believing segment of left leaning liberals that are athiest or anti religion about everything and are quite open about it. No biggie to each his own, we were given free will.

I think forcing your religious believes on a person is not how to get them to come around to your way of worship. Agreed. But to be fair, many will say that their religion/religious beliefs mandate that they try.
January 23, 20179 yr Agreed. But to be fair, many will say that their religion/religious beliefs mandate that they try. There in lies the problem for me. If you have to force me or anyone else to follow their believes I'm not going to do it. A person should want to do it willingly and of their own free will or they're just going through the motions. That is not true worship in my opinion.
January 23, 20179 yr Statistically somewhere over 85% of evangelical Christians identify as Republican.
January 23, 20179 yr I think more Republican candidates use religion when running for office. I think more Democrat candidates use tolerance when running for office. I am really skeptical of both.

I am very anti-religious but very spiritual. Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by spiritual. What do you believe in? I've just always heard people say they are spiritual without ever understanding what that means exactly.
