When you see a male/female with a neck tat, what is your first thought? Be honest

Featured Replies

Saw a tough looking guy today walking down the street with prison tats on his face looking like he was on his way to go hurt somebody. Just for kicks I tried to say a quick "Hey man how's it going?" in passing just to see his reaction and if I was prejudging him, but nothing broke him from the incensed deranged look on his face, nor did it appear that he was even aware that I was there. Dude was on a mission it seemed, and I wish for whoever he might've been on the way to see a ton of good luck.

I suppose that when I see people with neck tats I'll be quick to prejudge, and often my reaction would be to think "stupid", or "trash", and ordinarily just both.

Absolutely no chance I engage a guy like that. In fact, I would probably cross the street to avoid him altogether.

I think they can be tastefully and artfully done. When it's like that I tend not to take notice or if I do it's not in a negative manner. However, if you have what can only be described as "prison ink" down the side of your neck I tend to think "oops..".

One other thing for me is it depends on how many tattoos that person has. If they are inked from head-to-toe then it really doesn't stand out much.

Why?

Hate your parents?

No way, IMO. Tongue piercings can easily be taken out.

Neck tats are for life.

True, but when people are wearing them I find myself overly focused on looking at it. Kind of like a car wreck. You don't want to look at it, but you always do.

Why?

Exactly.

You know that one doesn't fit the parameter. What if your lovely daughter brought home this:

or this

To start with, I wouldn't think trash or drugs.

If he has a bottle of Crown Royal and wearing a wife beater to go along with the neck tattoo, then it is safe to assume he is a Louisville fan! :jump:

Not because of the young man's appearance but because you trust your daughter's choices, right?!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding spin's question. Bring home one of the people, or come home sporting the tat?

Not that it matters a lot, but there would be a subtle difference.

Last night I hung out at a small local auction. Sat next to a guy, probably 50, with detailed neck ink. Much of the time I held his Boston Terrier in my lap.

This thread looks like the right place for a little Enzo...

Right or wrong, the are income limiters.

Now one like UKMF describe his wife having is not a big deal to me. And to be honest neck tats in general shouldn't be a big deal, but the reality is they are. Employers don't want people in higher level positions, especially dealing with customers, having tats on their neck.

I hear ya, and normally I wouldn't, but I was just coming out of the post office heading to my car and didn't feel terribly vulnerable considering that a handful of people were out and about, and it was in broad daylight.

I'm usually a keep my wits about me kinda guy while walking city streets avoiding people that scream trouble, but at times can throw caution to the wind and be a bit daring. This might simply just be in the form of shopping at the Covington Kroger. You really never know how that's gonna go, but to be sure it's always an adventure.

There's been times where I've been out power walking and it becomes obvious to me that I'm about to walk through a gangish looking bunch who's looking at me like how dare this nerd, and backing away would make me look more like a target than just braving myself through it.

It's a crack up because I'll say "Hi" as I pass and usually I get no response because it seems that whoever that might reply would get ridiculed by their friends for being square and acting civilized.

It's safer if I just first drive to a power walking destination, but living in the city at times I'll choose to start out on foot right from my place, and it's anybody's guess what I might come across. I don't look for trouble, but sometimes I realize that I might be pushing my luck depending on which street I may venture down.

In Covington it's always hit and miss because there's always pockets of this and that, and you have to go from here to get to there, and the safety vibe can shift from street to street. I suppose that I could keep going in circles on the same safe street to avoid possible trouble, but that would get old real fast.

I was once standing in line at a carry out and a guy squeezed past me to fetch a 40 ouncer out of the cooler then planted himself in front of me in line. I said "Dude you know that you just cut me, right?", and he says "Yeah, what about it, I just spent 17 years in prison, do you want to make something of it"?... I'm like "No that's quite alright man, do what you must".

I was once taking my walk, and out of the blue appears this much taller than me dude posturing himself in my face asking me what's my problem. I was like "What are talking about?" and he insisted that I was looking at him funny, and I insisted that I didn't even see him until he started in on me.

As you might imagine I was pretty nervous, but as he continued to threaten to me, the sound minded me was wondering how I might be able to defuse this situation, but fighting fire with fire was about the only solution that I could come up with, and though it was out of character for me, I instantly went all street on the guy with a clever assortment of fierce commentary, and to my amazement I struck fear in his face to the point that he backed off. No doubt that it could've all turned very ugly quick, but I learned that perhaps at times that chest might need to puff up to stand your ground even if it doesn't logically seem like the sane option to take.

Once I was downtown Cincy with an older legally blind friend with a guide stick parking my car in a very tight spot making sure to do it carefully, and after I perfectly succeeded a dude comes from nowhere claiming that I hit his car and that he was going to call the police unless I paid for the damages that he couldn't even point out. I don't even know if it was his car, but I'm sure that he was scamming me and trying to scare me into handing over money to him to avoid further complications.

We were dressed for the theater and I'm sure that he viewed us as light weights until I went all ballistic on him ferociously screaming at him that if he didn't get out of my face and on down the street that I would drag his butt down the street. He got a surprised smurk on his face that said "Well looky here at who's getting all street on me", but he knew that I meant business and carried on down the way. I promptly moved my car to another location because I wasn't about to come back to any smashed windows after I had left the theater.

No doubt more information than you were expecting, and certainly way more than I had initially planned, but as B-Ball often does, I got carried away. What's all this got to do with neck tats you might ask?

Nothing.

^ Can I get the Cliff Notes?

You seriously don't expect me to read that?! LOL

Sorry, I can't go the "trash" route on this one. Way too judgmental; and rushing to judgment is never good. But the OP did ask for initial impressions.

Maybe the work doesn't qualify by the letter of the law as a neck tat, but I've always been partial to Danielle on American Pickers.
