Im sure it was due to Obama and his job friendly policies.

Serious question. I usually read through these threads, but don't post often. With saying that:

Does the Anti-Trump side have something to argue against this? Usually one side is quick to point out why something isn't as good as it seems, like the thread about the company in Indiana. Is there not a downside or an argument from the anti-Trump side on this one? All genuinely agree this is a very good thing, right? Just curious.

I often enjoy seeing the opposite side of a particular topic, even if I don't agree with it or thing they're reaching.

As one who questions a lot about President Trump, I'm excited about this. Ford decided to NOT spend $1.6B and , instead, spend $700M or so and create about 700 jobs.

Ford CEO says the main reason was due to lower-than-expected demand for the cars slotted for Mexico. Said they already had the capacity in Michigan to make that car so why spend the extra money.

They said they see hope in the pro-business approach of the Trump administration.

Thanks @Clyde.

I like when you and others question things because I don't like jumping into a conversation with friends without potentially knowing the other side, which is often presented by some of our members.

Ford has increased US employment by 28k jobs (about 50% increase) over the last 5 years.

They aren't creating new jobs. 700 temporary employees will become permanent employees. That statement means they already had jobs at the plant but they weren't getting the same benefits as permanent employees at the plant. They will now get those benefits. They aren't hiring 700 people off of the street. They are already there. In that aspect it isn't 700 new jobs.

200 jobs will still be going to the Mexico plant.

Instead of spending 1.6B to build a new plant in Mexico they will spend 700 million to expand in Michigan and they save money by simply making the temporary employees permanent employees.

Ford looks good by saying they are adding 700 jobs. Technically they are adding 700 new jobs but in reality they won't be hiring 700 people. Just converting them to permanent employees.

The local union looks good because they can tell those temporary employees they are now permanent. Local unions HATE temporary employees because they take away jobs from union members. The local union is now happy because they get their union jobs back and they get union dues from 700 people now.

Trump looks good because he "added more jobs before he was inaugurated."

This is why I'm not impressed. It is semantics and wordplay that people use to push their agendas.

The biggest positive for Trump is the line from Ford "This is a vote of confidence in Trumps econmic policies" or some form of that. Union workers in Michigan here new jobs because of Trump. That matters for Trump and the GOP.
