Did they get a loan from the government or was it a just in case loan? I know they didn't take "bailout money" but I keep seeing something about them taking a 9B line of credit from the government in case the economy worsened. I'm not clear on if they got that 9B or not though. Still researching.

 

I could be wrong in this case but I'm more involved in the financial sector. I have some connections to Ford. But when the government offered bailouts to companies both auto and financial there was not a choice. Some of the companies needed them and some did not. But to create a level field everyone was forced to take something or create a line of credit to keep faith in companies that needed it.

Every article I have read says they are converting 700 temporary jobs to permanent jobs. No article has been linked in this thread saying differently.

I hadn't seen that in what I read, thanks for the link. It does bring up a question of will the temp workers need to be replaced? Meaning they go full time then they bring in new temps? I mean those temps are doing something today, if they add more production they will need more workers.

Not necesaarily. More often than not temporary employees are brought in when there is an unplanned uptick in production and then let go when things go back to normal. In this case the expansion will allow them to absorb(convert) those 700 employees into permanent employees and if they still have a need for more workers they will have the option to hire more off of the street as permanent employees or they could just hire temporary employees again. Ford is in a great spot with this situation. They come out smelling like roses. As does the union. As does Trump.

This is all interesting to me, and that is what I was thinking...there are 700 people today who have a big sense of relief about their job security.

 

As someone who know nothing about these things, what I take from it, is Ford isn't spending lots of money in Mexico. They might be spinning the numbers to make themselves look good, for which every body does, but they are investing more back into the US economy and are making a commitment to do this.

 

I have always been a chevy truck guy...my father in law (Who has always been a Chevy Truck guy) bought a new Ford 3 years ago because of all the buyout stuff...He had it about 6 months and decided to trade back into a Chevy.

But it's good all the way around, regardless of how it was framed. 700 people now have full time employment, better pay and benefits, the union has 700 new members. With expansion there may very well be new jobs created down the road at that site. It's all good.
