How Much Sleep Do You Require?

Featured Replies

Once again Cat taking a thread in the wrong direction.

I don't know what you're thinking. I was talking about having kids. Oldest is 25.

6-7 is my goal. Love to take a quick nap in the afternoon for about 20 minutes. Makes my afternoons very productive.

Much like LB. My motto has been. " I'll sleep when I'm dead"

What's this nap thing you speak of? :lol2:

Falling asleep hasn't really ever been my issue. Mine is more that I have the awful ability of waking up at certain noises. If it's a massive thunderstorm outside, I'll sleep right through everything, including tornado sirens, etc.

However, if my dog jumps off the bed, I wake up. If my wife gets out of bed to use the bathroom, I wake up at the sound of the light switch going on. It's super annoying and causes me to wake up a good 5-6 times nightly on average.

I typically go to bed around 9 during the week, and am up at 5 am. But I'm probably up about 1-2 hours on average between there as well.

Weekends I go to bed later, and (at least I used to) get up quite a bit later.

BINGO!!!

I have to sleep with the radio on, or the slightest noise wakes me when the room is dead silent.

I make sure I'm in bed, lights out and ready to fall asleep by 9pm on weeknights. Sometimes I'm in bed by 7:30 or 8. I am always up at 4:30 an 7 days a week. I've been doing it so long I literally can't sleep later. I rarely am able to fall asleep right away, unless it's one of those 7:30 or 8 nights. If I go to bed that early, I'm usually up by 3am, sometimes 2am. And once I'm awake, there's no going back to sleep. If I fall asleep later than 9am, I drag all day the next day.

All that being said, I'm guessing I REQUIRE somewhere around 7 for optimal production. I usually get between 4 and 6.5, and I make it through the days. Like others, if I could bee guaranteed a nap, I'd be golden with 3-5

5 hours is plenty for me. Rarely get any more than 6.

I feel sorry for folks with sleeping issues. I can sleep at any time, anywhere, on nearly anything if I so choose. I typically sleep 7 hours per night. Takes me all of 30 seconds to fall asleep.

I'm right there with you on just about everything. I sleep about 7 hours a night and fall asleep instantly. If I'm in a car longer than say 45 minutes where I'm not driving (obviously) I'm probably going to doze off for a few minutes. I have a lot of energy throughout the day I don't ever feel tired, I just like to sleep. I can sleep through anything. Literally when I was in high school, lightning somehow struck the side of our house right next to my bedroom and I didn't wake up. Its a blessing I guess after reading the comments on here.

How long have you had tinnitus? I've had it since 2003. It used to drive me crazy but I've gotten somewhat used to it. Did you try a fan in your room for background noise?

If I don't get my 10 hours of sleep, I'm just not myself

I am the same way and I always thought that was a good thing. Then, a few months ago, I was diagnosed with a mild case of sleep apnea and began using a CPAP machine. I found out that being able to fall asleep easily is sometimes a symptom of sleep apnea. I never had trouble staying awake driving, working, etc., so I was very skeptical when my doctor suggested that I have a sleep study done.

When using the CPAP machine, I feel much more rested after 7 or 8 hours of sleep than I did before and I am no longer risking killing brain cells by depriving them of oxygen. I went from about 9 "apnea events" per hour to under 1 per hour (1-5 is considered normal).

I bought a cheap pulse monitor/oximiter and found that my blood oxygenation level remains constant at 95 - 100 percent while sleeping with the CPAP but sometimes dips below 70 percent when I sleep without it.

Doesn't matter what time i go to bed I'm up around 6 without an alarm. I do take melatonin from time to time and it really helps me.
