December 19, 20169 yr Several here have posted there are scared of a Trump presidency. Lets try to stay on track and each one of you explain why you are scared.
December 19, 20169 yr Afraid? I have not gotten that, concerned and dislike, yes. What is wrong with that? I don't have to like him and I am concerned. Now, I will still wait and see if that plays out. I haven't lost one ounce of sleep over it and won't. Our President is an egotistical buffoon, but he is our President. The office should and does carry respect to me. I am just gonna' wait until he begins to really show his true colors and watch those who support him on here blame Obama because he fails. He is a man that seems to accept no blame. He blames everyone but himself. He has something Obama never had, total legislative partisanship. The inner cities will flourish, immigration issues will go away, American workers will prosper, we'll have lower taxes. If he does this, I assure you I will be wrong and happy. Again, we will see.
December 19, 20169 yr I've gone through stages. I was afraid initially. Then concerned. Now I am amused.

First two years Obama had the House and Senate on his side, then lost the house at the first mid term. Don't you remember the hurried votes on ACA or "We have to pass it so we can see what's in it". Mrs Pelosi and Mr Reid were the both Majority leaders during President Obama's first two years.
December 19, 20169 yr I've gone through stages. I was afraid initially. Then concerned. Now I am amused. Just for discussion sake since most won't admit they were afraid, what were you afraid of to begin with?
December 19, 20169 yr Just for discussion sake since most won't admit they were afraid, what were you afraid of to begin with? I am still trying to figure out what this means, seriously what does it mean? To me afraid means that I might lose my life, my income/savings, my family. I in no way believe that.I think afraid is the wrong word. I am not even afraid for the country, I just don't think it will be any different in a significant way. When you take it to the individual level, most often it is the decisions that individual makes, understanding the circumstances, that make the difference. I believe I can and will adjust, if anything trickles down my way. When I look at it with social injustices, I may feel differently, but I am an older white male, I am pretty much untouchable and have the advantage.

My bad, you are correct, let's see if DJT uses it as wisely and as well as Obama did.
December 19, 20169 yr Just for discussion sake since most won't admit they were afraid, what were you afraid of to begin with? The antagonizing after the election bothered me. It seemed like the thing to do for some of the crazies was scream support Trump at latinos, Muslims and blacks for a few days after the election. It was troubling and as a black man in America I think it is hard for people to understand our mindset at times. Our memories of the past aren't exactly fond memories and we all know history is always capable of repeating itself. Every time I hear that statement about history repeating itself my first thought is always which part of history is going to repeat itself? There is a lot of history that isn't favorable for me. The last thing I need is to be accosted by some over exuberant folks eager to make America great again. Once that feeling subsided and the hysteria ended with zero issues at all I felt much better.

Fair enough, thank you!
December 19, 20169 yr Not afraid from a personal/family/job standpoint. I'm white, retired, middle class. My fear - as I probably stated prior to the election - is that the President-elect's woeful lack of tact, diplomacy and foreign policy experience could have grave consequences.

Grave in what way, you think he'll get us into more wars than we've been in the last 15 years? President Obama just stated he was putting boots on the ground in Syria, is that grave consequences of his presidency?

December 19, 20169 yr In recent times there's somewhat been a notion even through ever tumultuous social strife and disturbing horrific news items that our nation was inching its way however slowly forward to being a more all inclusive accepting nation where the discussion of true justice for all had taken front and center, and most it would seem were buying into it. There's also been obvious resistance to these perceived advancements with an escalated presence of gun happy white and/or Christian types not in approval of the direction they were seeing this country take, and Donald Trump's campaign gave rise to allowing those voices of resistance to be heard either by the rhetoric he was espousing, or by selecting a running mate to fill in the gaps in areas that he remained quiet about, allowing the perception to be that the extreme Christian right had also been given a voice. Though I'm not convinced that he is truly concerned about his electorate and their concerns, and had simply used them as a means to accomplish winning the presidency to fulfill his own ego, I fear that his winning because of them has given them a sense that it's alright that they visibly and vocally take steps backward in the areas of social injustices, while giving back to them that sense of entitlement that they falsely believe should've been theirs in the first place. Whereas the voice of diversity was beginning to make great strides and was finally being heard, there's a sense now that it has been abruptly told that the party's over, leave the country, you don't matter, get back in the closet or consider conversion therapy, and to just shut the hell up and deal with it. Not exactly where half of the people in this country were hoping that things would socially go.
