December 8, 20169 yr Let's call it like it is. Bevin appointed a board that is loyal to him. Like every other governor. Nothing has changed on that front. Illegally, we might add.
December 8, 20169 yr Illegally, we might add.Question, wasn't it a supposed win to get Ramsey outta there? I think even @Getslow had desired that outcome.
December 8, 20169 yr Question, wasn't it a supposed win to get Ramsey outta there? I think even @Getslow had desired that outcome. I wanted Ramsey out. The board was less a problem for me but there's a way to do that that doesn't involve illegally dismissing the entire board and appointing a new one. There are laws and King Bevin doesn't get to ignore them in the name of expediency.

Funny how AG Conway never had an issue with that. It's also funny how Andy Beshear is now in a position that he's defending a board that is out of compliance with state law.
December 8, 20169 yr From what I've read in this thread and elsewhere, it seems to me that Bevin bears responsibility, but certainly not all of it.

I agree that Beshear failed to comply with the statute, but there's legal recourse to violations and there's just doing whatever you want. We don't get to resolve legal issues by further violations of the law. That's just chaos.

Is that worse then an AG of the same party as the past Governor, that may have benefited from contributions of the board, ignoring the non-compliance? Isn't the current AG also ignoring the non-compliance of his father's board?
December 8, 20169 yr Author I agree that Beshear failed to comply with the statute, but there's legal recourse to violations and there's just doing whatever you want. We don't get to resolve legal issues by further violations of the law. That's just chaos. I agree completely that the governor should not get free reign to do whatever he wants. My concerns are: 1. We now have precedent set that the governor can do whatever he wants to a Board of Regents at a public university. If the governor does not like how things are being run at another University, do you want him to dismiss the entire board and put in people who will do things the way he wants them done? 2. Do we want governors dismissing and/or choosing the presidents of our universities? 3. Do we not care if our governor disregards the law and does things the way he wants?
December 8, 20169 yr It's amazing how people that are so concerned the Bevin may be ignoring the law had no issue with it when Beshear was ignoring the law.

December 8, 20169 yr Author It's amazing how people that are so concerned the Bevin may be ignoring the law had no issue with it when Beshear was ignoring the law. Why are you assuming people had no issue with it? You should have started a thread on it back when it was going on because I know I would have had an issue with it and I am sure many others would have as well. To flip the tables though, do you not have an issue with what Bevin did? If you thought what Beshear did was a problem, surely you have to agree that what Bevin has done is even worse.

There are laws and King Bevin doesn't get to ignore them in the name of expediency. The board was less of a problem? They are ultimately responsible and just rubber stamped everything Ramsey did. I say some cleaning house was needed. So I wish Bevin did not follow the lead of his predecessor and did so in a more legal manner but it appears that UofL will no longer be lead by lap dogs now. If so, in the long run, UofL will be better off.
December 8, 20169 yr If Bevin would have had patience he would have accomplished what he wanted in time. The board position term expires replace them with YOUR folks until you have a majority and have them do the work. He sits in the background and lets it happen. Easy - peasy the way it has been done for a LONG time. Nope this Gov Bevin just runs over the process and does things illegally. It really isn't that hard.
December 8, 20169 yr Author I believe the biggest problem in all of this for the accrediting agency was the forced resignation of Ramsey.

He was a bit ham-fisted maybe. The Dems have had their was for decades in Frankfort and it was/is a cesspool of corruption. The current AG was certainly not going to do anything to address the issue. Maybe the execution was wrong but I agree wholeheartedly with the intent.
