Consider this:

 

Jamale Caruthers did his thing (look at his stats again) on a team that passed the ball nearly 3 times more than they ran the ball. Meaning, Caruthers was not their number 1 option on the majority of each individual play. Yes, he caught ball out of the backfield many times but was still not the #1 target on vast majority of plays.

 

Of course, the ball was in the hands of both QB candidates on every play and the vast majority of the plays that Pulaski ran, Johnson was the #1 option.

 

This is why I feel Caruthers should win Mr Football. He should not be penalized for being on a team with so many offensive weapons where many times he was not even the #1 target; nevermind the fact that he sat out the vast majority of the 2nd half of most of his games due to running clock

 

My prediction is of the 4 candidates, he touched the ball less and of the 4 candidates he was on the field less.

Does anybody have any background on Spencer Blackburn. Is he a kentucky boy or did he move here for football? I have not heard of him before this year. It makes a difference for me.

He shows up nowhere on the recruiting services. They list a lot of kids that don't have ratings.

I hope Jamale Carothers wins it.

 

I think Walker Wood wins it.

 

If I had a vote I can't lie I'd probably vote Walker Wood.

 

This year reminds me of 2009 when you could have chosen 3-5 kids and got it right.

 

I wouldn't be mad if any of these four outstanding players wins the award and I'll be surprised if it isn't one of these four.

 

Does anyone know when they announce the finalists?

1. Because he accounted for 4,300 yards in one season.

2. He accounted for 60 touchdowns in one season

3. Only one I saw in person this year and it happened to be the game he made the SC top 10.

 

My 2nd choice would be Carothers

Anybody who has watched BG knows that Carothers is that Man! I don't need stats show me game film...game film against good to great defenses and you'll see this kid making big play after big play! Take the state title game on a crucial 3rd and about 20, swing pass to Juice for a TD! Ask X who the best player they've played is...Yes BG had an prolific passing attack but defenses knew who was in that back field and trust that makes a difference. Best player on the arguably best team gets my vote.

Again, all of these players are great players and should be considered, I am simply pointing out another player who probably should be included in the conversation.

Mr Sixer, I would agree that after reviewing Dante Hendrix info here that he is also a worthy candidate. I simply am not familar with him (I have heard his name before and knew he was a very good player) like I am the others.

 

Is it true that Cooper choose to play up in 6A for football instead of 5A like they did when they played BG in the Title Game in 2012? If so, would think this has and effect on this issue. If Cooper were in 5A this year, they would have undoubtedly gone further in the playoffs and been talked about longer, which is a big factor in the Popularity Contest we call Mr. Football.

To my knowledge there is never an "official" finals list similar to the Heisman Trophy candidate list. This is MY opinion as to the final 4 candidates so take that for what it's worth. However, I would think any list of candidates that didn't have these 4 on there you would have to question.

Caruthers had 40+ more touches than Johnson. He was the leading rusher and second leading receiver, but your argument is he wasn't the #1 option? I could say that since Johnson was the #1 option everyone knew he was getting the ball, but still couldn't stop him. Bottom line is they were both great players Caruthers played on the better team that took some of the defense focus off him. While stopping Johnson was the gameplan for every defense.
