December 4, 20169 yr Rick Pitino says Grand Canyon University has best crowd he's ever faced in 40-plus years, including Duke and UK: Rick Pitino Says Grand Canyon Crowd is Best He's Ever Faced, Including Duke and Kentucky | Nation of Blue
December 4, 20169 yr :lol2:  Atta Boy J.L.R. Lil' Ricky, both U.K. and Duke are shaking in their shoes (laughing) over that one. It's probably a real good thing that no one really gives a Flying :poop: what he says or thinks or they might get upset. Funny how he mentions two programs that own him, uh ? My advice to him would be to control his program ....himself, asst. coaches, players and not worry about anyone else or their crowd. ...but that's none of my business. Seriously ... Rick Pitino is too great of a coach to be making statements like that.
December 4, 20169 yr It's playing to a crowd. Patronizing a well wisher or something to that effect. Rick just needs to keep eyes on his program and keep his guys out of the tabloids or jail. And I say the same for Call at UK. I'll admit though, the last time I was at Rupp the crowd noise wasn't nearly as loud as it has been in the past. I remember leaving games years ago where I was darn near temporarily deaf walking across the street to my car. Maybe it's me, IDK.

Rupp Arena is nowhere near the best environment in college basketball. That being said, there's no way Grand Canyon is tougher than Allen Fieldhouse or Assembly Hall.
December 4, 20169 yr Rick with hyperbole is no surprise. It did look like a pretty crazy environment. Wonder if it is always like that or if it was just for UofL. Would certainly be fun to play in front of. I'm sure Majerle uses it as a recruiting tool as he tries to build the program.

Wireman, it used to be LOUD. I also remember games at Freedom Hall that were just as or even louder. I think the crowds at Rupp are just getting used to it (except for yesterday) and are maybe taking wins for granted. Again, just my own observation.

I do admit I miss watching UK/Indiana matchups from Assembly Hall. Went to a UK(Pitino) - Indiana(Knight) game at Hoosier Dome years ago. It was loud, passionate, lethal, and I witnessed a few fisticuffs outside after the game. It was great!
December 4, 20169 yr Did you guys watch? That place was nuts. I've never seen anything like it.I did. And I'll agree with Rick. But what do I know?

December 4, 20169 yr I see some people will get worked up over anything... :lol2: Personally I'm offended that he grouped Duke and UK crowds together.
December 4, 20169 yr Did you guys watch? That place was nuts. I've never seen anything like it. The gym only seats 7,000. A packed house in a small gym, not much bigger than some high school gyms, Is going to be loud. Especially with lower ceilings to compact the sound into a small area. But I agree with those that say the Rupp crowd could do better in the cheering and loud department. Too many ticket holders that use it simply as a social event.
December 4, 20169 yr What was impressive was the little guard who dropped 42 (I think it was) on the Cards, including 14-feet high floaters.
