Christian Academy-Louisville 48 Mayfield 24

So this is what it feels like, a old feeling that I have not felt in many, many years. Hurts but was relieved to see that the sun did still come up this morning and it is still great to be a Mayfield Cardinal.

CAL fans were some of the best I have met. They even took my family in to their massive tailgate party with open arms.

Got to sit with DeSales Dad, what a class guy. Pondering a thought as I drove home, was DeSales better than Mayfield this year? They played CAL much better, of course comparing scores is not perfect but it does make one wonder. That said, this game no question CAL was better and a dropped TD here and take away a pick 6 there and this one is a very tight game but DeSales may have been fortunate that they somehow managed to keep their game as close as they did as they seemed to bend but not break until the end. The West in AA reminds me of the SEC West

@Toothpick you are a class guy and I really enjoy reading your posts! You are a Cardinal at heart but have great unbiased perspective on high school football. Appreciate your insight and you are always welcomed at CAL.

Have to comment here. Hats off to Mayfield fans. Losing with class! Giving the other team credit. Sometimes the other team is just better and it's hard to admit. But they have no issues with that. Kudos to a class program.

Congrats to CAL!

With CAL and DeSales in the 2A west, the chance of Mayfield ever 4 peating again is.... slim to none???

Thanks for the kind words, your son was outstanding as usual, good luck Sunday!

Congrats to CAL!

Well said RCC9. I agree 100%. No whining about this or that or what woulda coulda been. Credit to a victorious opponent and praise for their own team for all their accomplishments. Well done Mayfield fans!

I said it all year. It was going to take a very, very good team to beat this Mayfield team and I stand by that. This Cardinal team and more so this Sr. class has been tremendous for 4 years, not only in what they accomplished, but, in how they did it. They played the game with confidence, swagger, heart, determination and sportsmanship. Truly a class act from start to finish. They gave the community a lot of pride and while I know their hearts are broken today, I'm confident these kids will carry on in life with these same characteristics that they've been taught on the football field. Well done and much appreciated. I couldn't be prouder to be a Cardinal fan today.

True.. OB Catholic was extremely young this year, as well, and they were very talented. Next year may be even better than this year. Mayfield loses a lot in Arnett, Bright, Lumpson, Workman, K.Arnett and a few others, but, they still return a good nucleus of linemen and some excellent young skill players. If they get good QB play anywhere close to what they've had the past several years, they'll still be a very tough out..

Congratulations CAL! To beat a Mayfield team this good is doing something. I think being on the road in the 4th Quarter could be a factor, but not trying to take away from CAL. Good Luck next week hope you win it!

Mayfield, I know this one stings a lot, but you've had an incredible streak going that unfortunately has come to an end, but a Great Ride! And don't think they can't get back next year. Remember the bus goes the other way next year!

Well done, CAL! Tremendous effort to keep our Cardinals scoreless in the second half...that is a rare accomplishment indeed. Good luck next week against Danville.

Great seeing all of you guys again, TP. Here's hoping we get to visit regularly in the coming years, which would mean continued deep playoff runs.

CAL's senior, D-1 linemen were just better than MF's sophmore and junior trench workers who won't play a down of college ball. I know several of those underclassmen are absolutely devastated this morning, not just because they lost, but because they feel like they let their teammates, classmates. coaches, and especially the senior class down. They will be back in the weight room on Monday and they will work their tails off to get better. Will it be enough to catch the Louisville privates? I guess we will find out this time next fall.

Mayfield people on this site are the epitome of class. Tough to be this gracious in defeat after so many years of dominance. The radio announcers in the Mayfield radio broadcast not so much. Mayfield will be back. No one wants to play Mayfield, ever.

Paulson is the real deal.

My understanding is he was being recruited as a tight end? Is he a high major de end prospect?

I believe he committed to WKU they will probably use him as a TE.
