I agree. BUT, if they get it right then isnt that fair to the kids who lost.

1. Life lessons are the biggest part of football. Stuff happens sometimes.

2. How far do we allow this to go?

Very interesting. A few months ago I attended a dinner and our speaker was Kentuckian Kenny Davis who played in the controversial 1972 Olympic basketball game. He turned his life lesson into writing a book! Either way, unfortunately, this game has been tainted and both teams will come away with a bitter taste in their mouth. Huge life lesson for sure. I'm sure all of you here at BGP can recite the game "where the refs got it wrong" and it changed the outcome.

I think Kenny still has not accepted his medal.

Hopefully the judge will throw this out.

Courts should not get involved in something like this.

Here is the thing though, you have a direct violation of the rules/policy by the officials, which is negligence. This could get interesting.

Agree about courts. Do you believe that since officially, the game should have been over, the IHSAA should give the victory to the team winning at the end of regulation? For all intents and purposes, the game was over.

I am always torn on these issues. My stance is if a controversial play happens with time on the clock, it should never be overturned. In this situation though, the game should have been over. No time on the clock. Seems pretty easy to overturn and explain.

You punish the officials and tell the team that lost that sometimes the hardest lesson in life to learn is the right thing doesn't always happen.

If IHSAA goes against its officials (even if the call is wrong) then there will be strong backlash from the officials associations, could leave the IHSAA in a big bind.

Absolutely not.

We should do everything possible within sports to make it fair, but not involve the courts. The winning team could get a life lesson and forfeit the game too.

I believe that the officials on the field make the calls they think are correct and that those calls should stand regardless of when they happen. After the fact you can sanction the officials (as it appears has happened) but having a court overturn the results of a game takes it to far.

We want perfectly officiated games but that's never going to happen.

Absolutely not.

Completely agree. Even if they got it wrong, the game ends with the final whistle/buzzer.

Hate to see it end like that, but no way should this go to the court system.

Courts? No. However I believe the IHSAA should be able to overrule the contest. After all it wasn't a judgment call, it was a procedural rule, it's not subjective to anyone's judgment, there is no interpretation and it's unquestionable.
