Completely agree. Even if they got it wrong, the game ends with the final whistle/buzzer.

 

Hate to see it end like that, but no way should this go to the court system.

 

Shouldn't go to court, but the final whistle/buzzer did end the game. The officials then gave the losing team an untimed down in which they tied the game and won in overtime. By rule, the game was over.

In our sue heavy society, this stuff is going to get worse. I was listening to a call in show about a lawsuit that a family tried to bring against an official for a hit out of bounds that was not called. The hit caused an injury to the player and apparently his family was trying to sue the game officials for not protecting their child. They said the play wasn't flagged and several others weren't.

So where would this slippery slope stop? Reception ruled incomplete because receiver oob, but film shows foot was in...... Sue them? What about end of quarter TD run called back for a block in the back. Film shows block was legal. Make the teams get back together to play the forth quarter

That will thing must be what I was thinking.

Complicated, but short story is...game was over, clock at zeros, Fenwick has won the game, when officials wrongly gave Plainfield North one more untimed down. Plainfield North kicked a FG to tie game and send to OT where they won.

 

It's important to note this was not a judgement call or a PI penalty or anything like that. There's no domino effect of "what if's", the game was over and the officials messed up big time. It's front page news in Chicago.

Should not be in Court but the "winning" team should do the right thing and give up the win-----if the situation is as clear cut as it is made out to be.

1. Life lessons are the biggest part of football. Stuff happens sometimes.

This isn't a life lesson, tough loss, bad call situation. If the winning school can't do the right thing, then someone needs to step in and do it.

I read the specifics of the case and I understand the comments. However, again, once you start down the slope it generally takes you further then you intended. If this works then people are give. Hope to push further and further until we end up in a complete mess.

That's a shame. This should have been an easy one for the IHSAA. The game was over.

Long story short.

Team down 3 got an extra play that it should not have. Tied the game and then won in OT. Officials kicked a rule that allowed the extra play.

 

Judge will now decide if the losing team gets the W.

ABSOLUTELY bad precedent. Hell, we will have the courts looking at replays next. The game is decided on the field regardless of missed calls.

Maybe it could be a life lesson for the "winning" team. Tell the IHSAA they are not accepting the "win". That teaches the players to do the right thing. If it's a judgement call during or at the end of a game, I say things happen. This was not a judgement call. This was a correctable error by refs. Game was over. I never want to see courts get involved in kids sports.
