I think making fun of folks IS funny PP no matter who it is. We're all too damn serious any more. It's when the "n" word is used for comedy by some comics it's acceptable, but by other comics it is not. So why use it at all?

I am with you @PurplePride92 I was in tears watching the monologue, I loved it all, and I couldn't believe he dropped so many "bad" words on live TV, wow!

It depends on the context. In my opinion, what kramer did was NOT comedy. He had a meltdown and had to do the cringeworthy "I'm not racist" crap on shows all over. Louie CK was able to use the n-word and did so using it alongside the c-word and a homophobic slur in a masterful way. I don't think there is a double standard in comedy. It's just the context in how you use it.

I agree. It always fascinates me when this conversation takes place but this is the first time I've thought to ask why or if folks want to hear a white comedian use the n word.

Watched it this afternoon. Thought the cold open was cheesy but a cool tribute to Leonard Cohen.

 

As have been said already, the monologue and the election night sketch were brilliant and they were classic Chappelle.

 

Apart from that, there werent a ton of winners but most things after the first hour rarely are. I've come to enjoy McKinnon's character of the woman trying to hook up at Keenan Thompson's bar right before closing. That was funny again.

I enjoyed the Jheri's skit with the AI cue card homage and each of the skits already mentioned.

 

Thought ATCQ was excellent, despite Q-tip's hat. While it sucks that Phife wasn't able to rock the stage with them, I always like to see how a group incorporates their fallen comrades post-humously.

Absolutely love Dave Chappelle, and honestly miss his comedy and show. But SNL sucks.

I think you are. I think it is best to follow the unwritten laws of the land and just let the double standard carry on tradition. It's much easier that way. I use the word all of the time but I only use it in front of a select few of my white friends. Regardless of intent the use of the n word it still makes people uncomfortable and knowing your audience when using the word is of extreme importance. I think there are a plenty of cuss words you can substitute in place of the n word and if your voice inflection is on point then the comedic effect of your joke will remain pure.

Just watched it. Miss the Chapelle show.

The election party skit was, as someone said, on point with the reactions of the cast and their "feelings" expressed...but funny? Nope...just wasn't humorous. Heck, even the audience struggled to laugh, go back and watch it on Youtube. It got a couple of chuckles from me, but that was it. It COULD have been funny, but to me it just wasn't.

Agreed, have no idea how anyone watches that show on a regular basis. Even with Chappelle it sounds like it was a bit underwhelming.
