There are people out there that would that would do all sorts of things, doesn't mean there is widespread or even more than a nominal amount that would support this.

When DLG was in grade school and we past St. Ann's Convent on the way to her soccer games, I always told her that's were you are going after high school. :lol2:

No. I feel really sorry for the citizens of countries that have that system, such as Saudi Arabia.

An interesting side topic for sure. All kinds of misconceptions out there.

 

The one that was most interesting to me is that priests bedded brides-to-be before they were married.

Christianity gets fuzzled and corrupted enough by churches. Imagine how twisted the government would make it.

Absolutely not.

Now as to that, I think there's a marked difference between saying "There should be no national religion" and what we hear from an increasingly vocal group which suggests "Your religion should have no bearing in your public or political life."

 

I don't think Catholicism should be the national religion (We've tried that. There were schisms and reformation and a few wars with a bunch of German princes; it was awful.) but I know for a fact that my Catholicism does impact the way I see the world and the way I see what's best for the future. One's personal philosophy is derived from a number of places, not least religion, and as long as we keep sight of that fact, then I embrace those things being a part of one's public life.

However, there are lots of folks who want to impart their religious beliefs on others, govern, and make laws solely based on what a book tells them...
