Are these de facto district tournament games? I'm not really familiar with HS football playoffs.

Russell won their district and gets a playoff bye this week because their is only 3 teams in opposing district.

So what is the real reason so many teams make the playoffs? Is it money, i.e. another week of that many teams with gates? Is it so Jr. can say his team made the playoffs? Is there a legitimate reason I'm overlooking? I just don't see the rationale for a weekend when only a handful of games will not end with running clocks. For those in favor of the current format, what is the basis of their arguement?

There are several 2/3 games that will be great games. I hate the 1/4 match ups overshadow these.

So football is treated like every other sport in the state. Everyone gets into the playoffs in every other sport and blowouts happen in every sport in round 1. For some reason it is a big problem to some people to have blowouts in football but they don't care about blowouts in basketball, baseball, soccer, etc.

The one that I would consider as a major upset if it happens is Paris over Paintsville. Paris can score points quickly and often. They had close games with run heavy Nicholas and Bracken and hung with Brossart. Paintsville is a different animal, but if Paris keeps their composure, they are capable of a big upset

 

Not gonna be easy since they lost one of their kids on Friday to just that problem. How much will not having Dumphord available harm Paris' chances?

How about 10-0? And the game stopped early because it was so lopsided. More than few. Covington Catholic won both their district games by 10-0 scores.

Actually region tournament games, since each district is playing their opposite number (1 v. 2, 3 v. 4, etc). Win your first two playoff games, you get to go to the region championship. Districts are decided in regular season.

I am hoping some stat lover can tell us, since 1998 how many times has a 4 seed defeated a 1 seed?

I don't have the answer in front of me....it's a good question....but...unless I'm mistaken, Shelby County won the state title in 1987 as a 4 seed....and South Oldham - with Donnell Gordon - made it to the semi-finals in 1992 as a four seeds, losing to Billy Jack Haskins and Paducah Tilghman.

 

Again, I'm not 100% certain of either of those, but those are two that come to mind that I think were four seeds.

 

Then again, my 54-year-old brain isn't what it used to be, so feel free to correct lousy memory!!! LOL

I couldn't wrap my head around the traveling for district games. This makes a lot more sense.

Wasn't SK or Ryle a 4 seed when they went to the title game a few years back?
