In 2001 HHS won the first game 52-22, but they were the benefactor of lots of Colonel turnovers. Cov. Cath despite losing by 30 had approximately a million yards against the Birds. After the first game I remember having a conversation with Dale that I was concerned because we had given up so many yards. He smiled and told me there was no reason to be concerned. In game two, minus the turnovers, the game was much tighter and the Colonels upset the Birds with a field goal at the end of regulation.

 

You're correct, they have split in '92, '97 & '01. HHS has 12 clean sweeps ('82, '89, '95, '98, '00, '04, '07, '11, '12, '13, '14 & '15) and Cov Cath has 3 ('88, '94 & '06).

In looking at the scores not much surprised me except that in the early to mid 70's, HHS shut out CCH FIVE years in a row...that is HARD to do...

That second game was one of the few (and I mean VERY few) times I thought Dale coached a bad game. The play calling was very conservative if my memory serves me correctly and it looked like he was playing not to lose...

The program had only started in 1967, and at the time of the fifth straight Highlands shutout in 1976, they were on their fifth head coach in under a decade of existence. The Colonels only managed two winning seasons prior to 1981...so it wasn't exactly so hard to shut out Cov Cath as you may think.

Of the years CCH swept Highlands who were some of the standouts?

94'- ?

06'- WR David Wilson, ?

Yes...Galen was RB. Cov Cath had Brad Folke, Artie Steinmetz and Brett Spaulding on defense.

Wilson was a force on the gridiron. I remember him taking out my TE and WR on pass routes in the middle of the CCH defense.
