Okay, a little Wednesday afternoon fun. Lets say that this morning the KHSAA called Pike County and said Belfry has to move up to Class 4A and play in that class's postseason. Everything else remains the same.

Well, first off, Belfry gets a ring in 4A.

 

 

I think Corbin is the clear choice to make it from the East. Obviously.

 

 

The only real difference is that a team from the west now has a legitimate shot at a championship, whomever it may be.

 

I'd say Caldwell v. Corbin in a solid championship game.

I'm of the notion that if Belfry isn't around, we are talking about any number of teams who could win 3A (not unlike 1A). But since they are, then no one has a chance. Really an odd year in 3A.

If Belfry isn't around we are hearing everyone in 2A complain about how it is not fair that 3A is so easy and they all have to go through a gauntlet to try and win a ring.

 

Seriously though, Russell would be crowing a little louder, Corbin fans would be building a shrine to Haddix, and Boyle County fans would be extolling how they may be on the cusp of a 4-peat thanks to this Freshman class.

Very True. Belfry has been beat up all year....and will be without a couple of starters Friday. Three potential things keep this Belfry team from a 4-peat: 1. Injuries. 2. Turnovers 3. Penalties

To answer the original question.....Corbin or Louisville Central.

Well there is a ZERO % chance of that happening, so I guess Belfry is in good shape.

If you take Belfry out of the mix, then Russell becomes the Region favorite in R3 and would set up a Russell / Corbin semifinal that would almost be a certainty. The Western half of the semi-state is still a mystery.

 

Who would play for the regional championships?

R1 - Caldwell and Elizabethtown?

R2 - Boyle and Central? or Bardstown and Boyle? or Central and LexCath? Somebody else?

 

 

All told I think Corbin would be the favorite, but the playoffs would be more interesting.
