I often feel Andre Woodson made Joker Philips look like one of the top Offensive Coordinators in college football and was responsible for Joker getting the coach in waiting job.

As one of the Defensive Coaches or as the head coach. I could see fitting him in somewhere as a Defensive Coach as he tries to get back on his feet but I don't see as a head coach.

Would he have ever got the Texas job if he never had Teddy?

 

There have been a lot of coaches over the years in basketball and football, that have ridden short term success (due to a key player), to a better job.

 

I just wonder if Teddy didn't help cover up Charlie's coaching warts, so to speak.

Herman may be the next best thing to sliced bread, but he has yet do to anything without Ward except beat-up on Lamar and lose to UConn. You would think ADs would want more data before jumping all over the flavor of the month.

Herman won a national title two years ago calling the plays and the offense looked great with 3 different qbs. He goes to Houston and takes Ward to the next level as a qb, and gets Houston to a top 10 team that they haven't been in years. While Strong took over a Louisville program that just a few years before that was winning bcs bowl games under Petrino.

Um, Louisville was coming off 6-6, 5-7 and 4-8 seasons consecutively when Strong got there. Won two Big East Championships and a Sugar Bowl in his four seasons. Let's not act like he walked into a great situation at Louisville.

You couldn't be more wrong. Ward was a converted wide receiver and Herman turned him into a star. He did it at Ohio State too. Herman developed Braxton Miller from a guy who just ran around all over the place his freshman year into a Heisman trophy caliber QB and developed Barrett and Cardale Jones into National Championship QB's. The guy is legit. Saying a great QB is covering up his weaknesses as a coach is a bad argument. He is the one making these QB's great not the other way around.

and my point is he is never not going to have a great QB. Just like Urban Meyer is always going to have a great skills position players and Saban is going to have great defenses, etc. QB's are Tom Herman's calling card.

I feel like a traitor for even making this next statement, seeing as how UofL made their rise to where they are, but it should be addressed.

 

Houston plays in the American. To assume Herman will automatically have great success as a HC at a Power 5 school is premature at the least.
